Rapsody S25 with USB Device/HOST
Does anyone know if this would work on an Axim??

It suppose to have a USB device/host. You can transfer between digital cameras and even a PSP.

Hello, I have one of these devices, and I have ordered a X50V from ebay 2 days ago. I will post my results here when I have tested it.

So far it works with: Ipod Video 60GB (For mass storage), Canon Ixus 750 (full access), external USB 2.5" drive with no extra power source required (full access), USB flash keys (full access). And all at USB 2 speeds.

It also charges from USB (quite quickly too!) thus minimizing the amount of adapters needed. The intenal battery is good for about 12gb of transfer in one go. It does have a socket for power in, should it be required.

I am going on a world trip soon and will be needing a lot of photo storage, and this device will be perfect. No computer required! It can accomodate up to 120gb hdd too!

As I have never had a PPC before, it will be interesting to see if the two devices will work together. The plan is to fill up about 8gb on the X50v, then archive it on the S25 - if by USB then great, otherwise via card reader. Any body know who stocks a REALLY small CF/SD card reader preferably with flick out USB cable?

Question: When you plug a X50 into your computer via sync cable, does it appear as and external hdd in any way? If it does, then the S25 should be able to copy to AND from it in a flash!

Got mine from www.geekstuff4u.com - very good service.

More to follow when i've run some tests, should be Thurs 6th or Fri 7th April '06....

And whilst i'm doing research into storage, what are peoples' opinions of the following setup:

Ez Bus 60GB USB external drive (No external power required)
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?...artner=froogle

connected to the Ractor USB 1.1 CF card host.
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=122533

Will this work? Anybody verify this?

The only drawback I can see is the 1.1 speeds. Anybody know how long it would take to transfer 1GB from the SD card to this external setup? I calculated about 11 mins for a 1Gb transfer based on the USB 1.1 standards - am I right? Would this be improved at due to all data being processed without moving parts up untill the Ez Bus drive (Which operates at USB 2 speed, so will be ahead anyway)?

Ratoc = £95.00,
Ez Bus 60gb = £160.00,

60Gb PDA storage for £255.

Please feel free to comment and shoot holes in my dastardly plan.

Mrglass

Bad news I'm afraid.

It won't recognize the Axim in either Backup mode or Copy Mode.

The Axim will not read the S25 either.

Looks like we're stuck with CF and SD...at least untill this baby comes out:

Wireless HDD with internal battery. 120GB Axim anyone?

On a side note, this is my first forray into PDAs, and I am mightil impressed. Just today I was wirelessly streaming episodes of "lost" and "prison break" to my axim - flawless playback!!

My internet does appear to be slow though. Any newbie tips for speeding this up? i have a 1MB WAN in my home ad believe the connection with the Axim to be strong and fast as streaming both hi-qual video and audio works quickly - my PIE just seems to think a while before loading a page.

Any clues?

Mrglass.

I believe that there is a program you can install on your Axim which makes it appear as a standard USB memory stick, so you can drag and drop files without using ActiveStinc.

Are you talking about original X5 or the rerelease?
I have one of the original X5 machines, still running strong and I use it a lot......

From long experience trying to make an external drive work on the original X5 I gave up, it seems Dell did some tweaking of the OS, at least that seems to be the consensus of the opinions. I was hoping they'd revisited the OS issues on the new one...so which did you test on?

I've got a Toshiba E800 and with the usb doc and extra drivers, it works perfectly with both my self powered 2.5 inch enclosure and with my self powered jukebox type device (name escaping me at the moment). It would seem that if the manufacturer chose to tweak the OS from MS standards you run into this problem. So in order for it to work it appears that Dell needs to fix their mess and release a patch. On the original x5 I tried one of those adapters that goes from compact flash to pcmcia--no go which is about the only way I know of to hook a drive up to an original X5. With an old toshiba machine the same setup worked fine with the storage brick drivers for 2002 which I believe are still available online if you hunt for them. The guy that wrote the storage brick for 2002 drivers ended up selling the code and it's now sold on a web site you'll be referred to for 20 bucks which isn't bad but the new drivers don't work on the X5 either, but work great on the toshiba 800 under pc2003.
