card reader not recognizing microdrive
Hello to all,

I searched the net for microdrive (card) readers because my older SIIG did not read my 8 gig Seagate (orange label) microdrive.

I bought the 8-in-1 SIIG because it advertises IBM Micriodrive. All other card ports (and regular CF card) read fine, but it does not recognize MD.

My Axim 51v reads this microdrive just fine... any ideas please

Thanks...Rich

p.s. using win XP, reads that no reader software is needed

If your Ax reads it fine, then you need to update the firmware for your reader. Go to the SIIG site to see if they have a firmware update or whether it CAN be updated. Not ALL readers can be firmware-updated. That is THE top thing, becides build quality and supported speed, that I look for when buying a reader.

Could it not supply enough power? The high voltage power supply in the card draws a lot of current at startup. Try plugging the card reader directly into your PC, and try changing the cable. (I've seen a cable become intermittent such that it fails at high load.)
