CF to SD adapter & Opinions
While doing my reading on this site, I see that some people run a SD card in their CF slot via a adapter. I am upgrading from my x30 to a x50v and was thinking about doing the same.
Can anyone tell me a good adapter? Does the brand matter?
Or do you have a opinion as to why I should just get a cf card rather then a SD and a adpater?

Thanks for your info & thoughts.

Rob

i believe that all the adapters are made the same.

a CF card will be cheaper than a SD for now, but if u have a heap of SD/MMC & no CF, the adapter may be a good idea.
best price for the same storage space would definately be microdrives. some people are ok with the (slightly) higher power consumption and the existence of moving parts (making it easier to go bust).
some complain that type I CF cards leaves a gap in between the SD & the CF slot.
some prefer to save their CF slot for stuff like GPS etc.

it's really a personal choice.

SD/MMC to CF adapters
Hi,

Congrat' with the upgrade - I took the same direction.

There are two different approches in making theese adapters.

The first one has the SD/MMC opening in the top of the CF adapter. But the CF is not deep enough so the SD/MMC is sticking 3-4 mm out of the adapter when inserted. On the other hand it makes it easy to change SD/MMC card on the fly.
Theese cards are typically CF type I cards (leaves a small gap when inserted).

The second approach has the SD/MMC opening on the side of the CF adapter. You then have to pul out the adapter for changing SD/MMC cards. On the positive side the adapter fits perfectly in the Axim (noting sticking out and it's a CF type II)

I bought one of the second one's a few weeks ago on eBay (Item # 7607739551) for $9 plus shipment). Very pleased with it - there is a picture to see it and a link in "MyPDA".

I have the eagletec sd-to-cf adapter and it's the type-ii kind, where the sd card goes in on the side but nothing sticks out. It's works fine and even supports my 4GB sd card. I picked up mine while I was in Hong Kong... probably about $20. The only issue is that it may be hard to take out since it doesn't have any ridges for your fingernails to catch on. What I did was use electrial tape and made a little "tongue" that sticks out for me to pull on.

Here is a review of it: http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/...adapter_review

Brando (http://shop.brando.com.hk/index.php) use to sell it but I don't see it anymore, but I do see another brand of the same thing. Perhaps these are all the same on the inside.
