Alternative Storage
About a year ago I bought an iPod Clone in Aldi (super market).
The brand is "Medion" - quite good actually - but the design is (I read someone calling it "Eric Honecker design")

It has one speciality however - it has a builtin SD/MMC slot for reading AND writing. Besides this it also sports a OTG (USB - On The Go) - in other words - a USB Master connecter. The firmware has a file management part that allows files or filestructures to be copied between the builtin harddrive (20GB) and the inserted card.

This makes it perfect as a backup storage for movies, maps, litterature, encyclopedias, pictures .....

It's not fast - about 15-20 minuttes for 1 GB - but it's much faster than WiFi - and it does it without using the Axim in the meanwhile. The battery lasts for about 5-6 hours, but I have a spare.

I've used the last year now - works for me.
There are other similar solutions around - most of them are for the photo people to empty their camera cards onto. Some of these can also copy from the harddrive to the inserted cards and not only the other way. Some of these use 2½" drives, others use 1.8" drives.

I attached a picture of the "alternative"

Regards Will

Wow looks cool. Where can you buy these? On-line sites or in what stores.

There are Aldi shops in the US (I'm not sure from which part of the world you are) www.aldi.us but I doubt that there are any more "Aldi Pods".
Medion uses normally Aldi as shop for their products. The iPod Clone i particular made some waves because of the close resemblens to the original. Because of this I'm not sure if they where sold all over the world. In the blogs I've seen discussions about them in most of EU and Australia.

I payed about $200 for it one year ago, but I've noticed that my local Aldi still have a few of them left. The Medion product name is "JUKE220" or "MD95277" in Denmark. In germany and other country's I've seen the Medion numbers MD95248 and MD95134, I think the 95248 has a changed interface not to mach the original too much

If you are interested I would suggest eBay. An advanced search all over the world with the words "medion jukebox" gave me 2 hits from Germany (Item# 7613975692 and #7613392841). I estimate they will end at about $100. The charger is a switched mode unit running both 110 and 220.

Will

True, just wanted to know how much the clone costs compared to the real ipod. I have an aldi near me but have never thought of buying technology from them.

Medion is a German brand if I'm not mistaken. Most probably can be bought easily in Europe.

Aldi is actually one of my favorite gadget-dealers. When it comes to their brand "Medion" the technology is usually quite good. Of course design is something different - but then again I never bought the Jukebox as an iPod clone - I bought it as a convenient data storage.

Besides there are alternatives when it comes to that kind of storage products.

Nice, but I think I'll stick with my WL-HDD now that I have it working.
