problem with my card reader, slow!
I just installed my seabrent internal card reader (usb 2.0)

The write speed on my sandisk ultra II 2GB SD card is under 1mb/sec (took 750 seconds to load my 700MB movie)

My computer is somewhat old (maybe 3yr old) would it be because my computer is not USB 2.0 that it's that slow? Could is cause it to be that slow? or can there be any other reasons?

I have a P4 2.0 GHZ, 512 mb ram.

if your computer isn't USB2 then everything works at USB1 speeds....

You could always add a USB2 PCI card

You should be able to verify that your computer supports USB2 if you have WinXP by going into the Device Manager ( System Properties / Hardware ) and look for a USB2 listing in Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Your transfer speed indicates that either your PC or Card Reader is just a USB1.1 device.

Well, my system is in french, in my ''universal serial bus controllers'' that I have here I do not see usb2 listing neither I see any number ''2'' anywhere so I guess that I'm 1.1, though I don't see any number ''1.1'' or ''1'' anywhere.

I'll try to get a cheap USB2 card and see if it solve my problem then! thank you

Can you post the information that is listed under the USB Controller section?

With that info. it might be possible to determine whether the listed controller chip supports USB2 or not.

You ARE probably only at USB 1.1, but it doesn't hurt to make sure before you buy a dedicated USB2 card.

USB 1.0 and 1.1 just use the "USB" label, so there won't be anything other than "USB" there.

For instance. My controller that is listed is an Intel 82801EB, which supports USB2

There they are:

controleur de bus USB:
-concentrateur USB racine
-concentrateur USB racine
-controleur d'hote ouvert PCI vers USB SiS 7001
-controleur d'hote ouvert PCI vers USB SiS 7001
-peripherique de stockage de mass USB

My system's in french, but I think the most important is still readable to you, looks like it doesn't support USB2.0, what do you think?

My system came with USB1.1, and I got a USB2 card. Worth every penny if it doesn't break your bank. Also, max. speed is 11Mbps, which is just over 1.3MBps (8 bits to the Byte)
