SD Card Loses Contents

The strangest this happened to me today. While I was using my X30, it sorta locked up on me. So I hard set it. When it came back up, all my programs on the SD card were gone. Anything that I had installed using active sync, and all data in those directories were GONE!!!!

Anyone else ever seen this before?

A hard reset should clear your device memory but not your SD card or Built-in-Storage (assuming you have an X30 according to your username). Did you go into File Explorer to see if check if your card's contents are still there, or did you just look for the programs you installed to your card? If you are just looking for the programs, all those links will have been deleted by the hard reset, yet the data and program files would still remain on the card. To be double sure, you can also check your card in a card reader or another device.

I'm sure there are other posts on this issue (i just don't know where they are).

I've found that often if a file gets corrupted (for whatever reason) sometimes it appears as though there is nothing is in the folder (or storage device) that corrupted file is in. For example I had a corrupted file(s) in my AvantGo Folder and it appeared empty but when using Resco File Explorer it should it was full of something.

I think (and i'll be corrected PDQ if i'm off by the real experts around here), you can use the Error checking fucntions of Disk Manager (under Administrative Tools) and it may? find/fix the files that are corrupted. Once found you can try to fix them or just remove them and hopefully you'll get back the rest. Oh you can use a Card reader or Softick Card Export II.

Just earlier this week I backed up my SD Card (using SyncToy) after doing some error checking. I found I ended up with a 125MB folder of crap. I then reformatted the card and copied everything back to the card (except that file of crap). And found things are pretty much back to normal.

I don't suggest using any PPC based SD Management tool b/c they (at least in my limmited experience) have caused more damage than good.

Oh yea and there are programs out there that will attempt to 'fix' those corrupted files but its spotty at best (pics, and txt files its good at. . exe, bin, etc not so good).

Good Luck and hopefully I've helped not harmed :)
