What to Do to the Compact Flash Card?
Hello Aximers,

I had purchased a Transcend 8GB Compact Flash card...

will it be compatible with the axim x51v?

and can i immediately use it on the axim or will the CF disk work only after formatting using a card reader in windows?

if it must be formatted...what filesystem should i use? Fat32 or 16

Thanx for ur reply,
KarThiK

it sould be. format it to fat32 if possible... you will be able to use it in a card reader also (or any other cf compatible device).

yeah, format it AS SOON as you get it. dont attemp to put data on it before formatting becouse 1. it wont work 2. if it did come factory formated (you still want to format it) then the data will be ereased when you format it. also, if possible (i dont know what ver. of windows you are using) try formating it to NTFS, it is safer.

yeah. my sd card was formated to NTFS worked fine. as a general rule: you want to use the most recent file system avalible. as far as i know the axim x51 (which i assume you are using) is compatible with NTFS.

ok. then just go for the most recent, which is FAT32.

EDIT: what is interesting is that my SD card is NTFS.

good thery but the only differnce between the CF cards and the SD cards is that one is larger and they have diffent chip archicultures.

yeah...i think only SD cards can be NTFS formatted.... since they are the storage devices that came after CF...

and also i had another RIGDATA 1GB CF card. which also could be formatted to FAT file system only.....
