i couldn't swear to it, but i would say it's the same limitation as fat32, which is quite a lot (100+ gigs).

fat32
fat 32 has a mental problem tho, and stops at 132 gig (i think)
ive used a 20 gig cf card in mine, but i only had the chance to copy a file on and copy one off, no extensive testing.
that was one that came with a camera.
presumably with a cf usb host card tho, you would be able to use different formatting. . . mabey

lordanmol, look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat32 and the third post here. SD can't be larger than 4 GB, so Axim has no limits ;)

If you follow the SD card specs 2GB. The original specs do not allow for FAT32 if you follow the specs you should only be able to use FAT16 (and I assume earlier versions such as FAT12...). The Axim and most card readers do support FAT32 which is why 4GB cards do work.
Because of this and other problems there is a new version of the SD card specs which allows for FAT32 but still caps maximum card size at 32GB this is SD 2.0 also known as SDHC (SD High Capacity). Right now Panasonic is the only company using the specs but I expect to see more devices using it later this year. My understanding is that the SDHC cards are not backwards compatable.
So specs say 2GB although you can use 4GB cards with no problems. I am not sure if we will see 8GB or larger cards that the Axim will be able to use because of the new specs.

that's not quite true, when they advance flash memory (like they have so many times already), we will likely see 8gb sd cards in the future. don't know how soon into the future, but it can certainly happen.
as far as the sd card specifications goes, flash memory is only a medium of storage. if you wanted (despite if it will or will not violate sd standards), you could format an sd card with any file system you prefer.

Please note that the maximum volume size of a FAT32 volume is 2TiB, 2048GiB (TB or GB, if you prefer).
