2 gig SD card on Axim X5

I tried a SanDisk Ultra II 2gb SD card on my new Axim and it only loaded up 950mb then gave me a "cannot find sector" error. I suspect it is because it is an older X5, the 300Mhz version that came with PPC2002 A00. I upgraded to PPC2003 aka WM2003 ROM A05, and this is what I tried the card on.

I tried formatting the card FAT16 and FAT32, and both recognized the card as having 2gb free but would only let me fill up to the 1gb mark.

I am now filling up a 2 GB SanDisk Ultra II COMPACTFLASH card with no problem. Just as others have experienced, the CF hardware appears to have a larger capacity than the SD hardware. I wonder what its max is though?

Hello, (sorry for my english)

I have got the same problem with my dell axim5, I own 2 sd cards of 2gb.

- 2BG TRASCEND 150X
- 2GB Kingstom 40X

When i copy ont it some informations (about 970MB) there is no problem, but when i try to copy more informations than 1GB, information are corrupted (it's impossible to read them).

It 's the same problem with both sd cards that i own.

I read this thread on this forum:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=137307

it seems to be the same problem, but i 've got not the solution. I tryed all the type of formatting FAT 32, FAT16, etc but now i'm sure that this problem doesn't depends on the formatting.

If you have got an axim 5 try to copy a lot of photographies on the sd card, after 1GB, all photographies will not be readables.

Perhaps it's not true for everybody.

I hope dell has got a solution !

I am on a personal mission to figure this out. Sorry for the rant but i hate lack of information.
HOW DID YOU FORMAT THE 2G AND ONLY GOT HALF FAT32 OR NTFS

Ok so I had a falty 2 gig card got a repacement. I am unabe to access anything on sd card above 1 gig. I think it is a hardware issue. 2 gig in compact flash working seemlesly. anyone have 2 gig sd card working on x5 please post production date of your unit.

Me again yet the 2GB SD card works great. The problem with that size card I would guess is people put incorrect or corrupted data onto the card causing it not to function. They then blame the functionality of the card.

You have to just reformat and start all over.

2gb SD cards work on all axims.

Aximsitesoftwareicon sd

I did extensive testing on my axim. The 2 gig SD cards will not work on my unit. The files were not corrupt. I made 2 disks identical using my PC one 2 gig cf one 2 gig SD then scan disked them then verified the data then put them in the axim X5 the cf worked seamless the SD did not. all data above the 1 gig mark was not accessible on SD card. Received error for sector not found. then i removed SD card put it in PC and verified data OK. I think it is a hardware limitation, possible firmware limitation but not likely. my axim came out originally with A02 ROM version. It is currently running hacked A05. I would be interested in anyone that has a 2 gig SD card functioning above the 1 gig mark posting the build date of there X5 the ROM version it came out with and the ROM version they are running now to make it work. Maybe it is just the hacked ROM A05 that has the limitation.
