I have a x5 with ROM A5 on it . It was shipped on 4-16-03. My brother gave it to me about a week ago. The first thing i did was get a 2 gig sandisk SD card. I can't get it to utilize more than half of it. witch upon research I've found to be a issue. some people get it to work some don't. I would like to compile here the max size of cf and SD cards people have got to work what methods were used. IE. formated in fat32 with 32 KB cluster size on the axim with software x. or on PC or what ever. The ROM version and approximate build date of pocket PC. so that others like my self can see what works and what doesn't. the build date can be used to figure out if possible hardware changes were made. I like my x5 but like my other toys i want the most space i can get. according to dell 512 MB is max for X5 :) LOL I have a gig but I want more!!! well i want the most i can get with the least waste. if 1 gig is max a 2 gig card is a waste. thanks to all that respond your time is greatly appreciated. OH ya mine is 400mgz or advanced model.

-There should be a sticky here that contains a chart with the maximum size cf and/or sd card for every axim model. (What brands, and how u have to format them.) That would be a great sticky.

the information must be compiled before a sticky can be made. I'm still doing research but as of yet I can find Little to no data on this top-pick. I called dell sales they said the 2 gig SD was compatible with the X5 and tried to sell it to me. I got a quote emailed to me. Then i called tech support they said 256 was max then back tracked when i told them i was able to use 968.66 MB of 2 gigs. Then they said 512 MB was max.... what gives????? even the producer of the X5 doesn't know what it can do. Please if there are any X5 users out there help me out here. I am on a personal mission to figure this out. Sorry for the rant but i hate lack of information.
I have an Axim X5 which utilizes all of the SD SanDisk 2GB. I also have a Kingston 1GB SD card which utilizes all of the card. No problems with either one. I just interchange the cards. Probably can't do that with app programs but it works well.:approve:
mostlylisten what ROM version do you use? when was your X5 made? What format?? fat 32?? ???kb cluster?? how do you format and load files to your sd card??? Thanks

The model is a Dell Axim X5 400MHZ 48MB of RfOM ROM Veriosn A05 I upgraded from 2002 ppc to 2003 ppc. Usually store on the SD via Active Sync.:approve:
My Axim X5 was a PPC 2002 version. I was able to upgrade the ROM to 2003. A lot of people say theres no difference but you'd be surprised in the additional number of software titles to choose from.
I'm still in testing phase...so far I think the 2 gig card I have might be no good. I have a open case at sandisk the last thing they told me was to try to format it in a PC. When I do that using disk management it shows 49% available right after format. So with my laptop and my axim I can only use 1 gig of card....Humm whelp so now i wait for a response from them..... just so everyone knows my test subject is sandisk 2.0GB SD flash memory card part # sdsdb-2048-a10. My axim X5 is 400 MHz version. It was shipped 4-16-03. I am running ROM version A05. PPC 2003. Let the games continue.
Dell told me 1GB was max for SD and CF on X5. I had 2GB SD and CF working fine
Dell told me 2GB was max for SD and CF on X51v I have 4GB in both running fine.
I know of someoneone using 8GB CF in X51v running fine. In X51v a X133 SD card backs up 40 MB in under 2 mins and on SanDisk ultra II is 5s slower only. I had an SD 2GB card that worked fine then suddenly reported a little less than 1GB, so I got it replaced, I even was offered refund as prices had dropped, which I thought was decent service. And it is a different make than original Integra
Thanks nmbaker for the reply. so 2 gig is max in your experience. what ROM did you have in the X5? it seems my SD disk is also bad so they are exchanging it, I will let you all know after testing the new one. thanks again to everyone participating in this data gathering.
I'm having problems with my Kingmax 2GB card in my X5 (ROM A05, 400MHz, PPC 2003). With nothing on the SD card, my X5 reports the full 2GB available, so I know it has no problem seeing an empty card. The problem comes when I try to fill it up.
I've been using a Lexar 1GB before and it worked great.
Now I'm testing TomTom 6 and there are no individual state / province maps, just a North_American map that is 1.2GB in size, which meant I had to start using my 2GB Kingmax card.
I copied TomTom and the map data over, but when I ran TT it kept saying that there was no map data. So I checked using Explorer on the X5 and sure enough, there was nothing in the "North_America" folder.
I've tried both FAT and FAT32. Same thing. I used a card reader directly in my PC to copy the files over. Now I'm copying the files over via Activesync (taking forever!!).
thanks for the info. let us know the outcome. If you open mem manager on the X5 you can see how much data you can copy before an error if it dose error. just check the space before you click OK on the PC.

It didn't work, I got an error when copying over the data via ActiveSync.
What's Mem Mangager? Is it a PPC 2003 app, or another downloadable app?
EDIT: I just went into "Settings" and clicked into "Memory". It's reporting that my SD card is 1958MB in size, so it is seeing the full 2GB... confused now!
