Well, after reading about the $90 8GB Transcend CompactFlash card here, I ordered one and it arrived today. It's great, but unfortunately it takes forever to transfer music and videos over to it via Activesync :-(. I do have a blazing fast flash card reader for my PC, but the CF card is so doggone hard to remove from the Axim that I'd rather just leave it in there as a permanent fixture.
Now, I know that Softick Card Export II is another option, but does anyone if it's any faster than Activesync? Thanks.
I have used Softick's CardExport II and I find that it is significantly faster than ActiveStync. You can download it for a trial and decide for yourself.
i dont think that the dragging speed is because of activesync. the serial connector on the axim itself is very limited. i read somewhere its slightly less than usb 1.1 (please correct me if im wrong on that one) so using another transfer program going through your axim will make little to no difference. its best to use that card reader. if its hard to get out make a tab out of tape that you can pull on. look it up in the forums here on instructions.

got here faster than i did lol. well i guess i am wrong? i am curious now and may have to try for myself.
Wow, thanks for all the replies! I did try Card Export II (didn't even know there was a trial), and yep, it is ~5x faster than Activesync, although still slower than my USB 2.0 PC card reader. Still, I'm impressed. I think I'll get this :-).
Has anyone tried this program with Boxwave's USB 2.0 sync cable and THEN seen a significant improvement?
I doubt the cable makes a difference at all. The stock Axim cradle is USB 2.0 as well, and technically, it and any synch cable would function identically. By the way, I've been very happy with Card Export II. I don't even need mobsync or mightysync; I can now use any PC sync software like Microsoft SyncToy.
there is a serial converter built into the axim at the bottom connector so anything connected to the bottom has to be converted to serial that is why active sync stinks
There is a serial in/out on the connector at the base of the X50/X51, but there is also USB slave I/O. The usb is NOT converted to serial for transmission to the computer, it can be set up for serial style data over USB for activesync use though.
I've been curious about CardExport speed benefits, does anyone have any data benchmark tests?

I don't have any benchmarks, but based on my usage, would go with a card reader, then Card Export II, then Active Sync, in that order. CEII is nice if you don't want to carry a card reader.
