Aximsitesoftwareicon CF DEAD from OLD AGE!

Okay so I ready so many posts that you can write only 300K times on CF card, but has anyone actually had their CF card die on them from old age? That is has anyone went over the 300K writing limit on their cards?

By the time anybodies CF card dies on them. 128 Gigabyte cards will be out and 16 Gigabyte cards will be $20. Can't wait.

I haven't had a cf card nor a sd card go out on me yet. I also haven't lost a thumb drive as well.

so why do people keep on claiming that limited write cycles is a disadvantage over microdrives if this is really not the case?

I've got a Lexar 1gig CF (red label). I originally used this CF card in my X50v. It worked fine for quite a while. I recently upgraded the Axim to a 4gig CF and used the 1gig in my Nintendo DS.

After about two months of use, that 1gig CF is "stuck" in "read only" mode and I can not delete, I can not format it, or do anything...

Yet, the Nintendo DS can still write game saves to it. I can see ALL the data on it. There is currently about 350 megs of data on it.

If anybody has ANY idea on how to forcefully low-level format the card -- I'd love to hear it!

I've contacted Lexar about it, and they WILL replace it -- but I'm a little weird about sending them a card that has a handful of NDS ROM images on it (all legal, but they don't know that)

Like most, I have never had a memory card fail on me. However, I plan to take an old 64MB USB Flash drive and use some of it as swap for an OpenWRT router. I think it'll be a long time before a burnout...
