I am sure they are quoting what Dell has on there website for axims, with that they only show 2GB, I think enough people here have tested and are using the 4GB with no issues.
I am also using a 4GB sd card and have no issues.

I've just purchased the Transcend TS4GSD150 from meritline.com to use in my X51V and the Axim is reading it as 957 MB. I had this same problem with a Toshiba 2GB I recently purchased. I read the reviews of the TS4GSD150 before purchasing and am now wishing I had just kept my Sandisk 1GB card and been happy! I've tried formatting it in WinXP SP2 and the only option I have is FAT32. Is there another way to format it and make it work with the X51 and if so how? I'm running FW A12 by the way.
It has to be formatted FAT32 to access all 4GB. Once formatted on your Win machine, does it read as 4GB there? Both of my Transcend 4GB 150x cards read fine out of the package on my x50v/x51v. When I put them in my laptop's built-in card reader, they were unreadable until I let Windows format them (FAT32). After doing that they were still readable in the Axim. One is approx. a year old and neither has ever given me any problems on the Axims.
I've had no problems with the card. I'm also using a 4gb SD (150x) & CF (100x) cards from PQI with no problem. I can read via card reader on my PC, on the x51v, ActiveSync, etc. PQI cards are on the cheap at http://www.surpluscomputers.com/store/main.aspx with free shipping, even quantity-1.

Right out of the package the Axim read it as 9 hundred and some odd MB (Settings, System, Memory, Storage Card). So I put it in my WinXP card reader and it read it as a 4GB card (3.82 to be exact). That's when I re-formatted it to see if it would help (FAT32). It did make the Axim read it a little differently but not by much, only a few megabytes. The Axim currently reads it as 957MB and the computer reads it as 3.82GB.
Where you able to resolve this problem? I want to buy a 4GB card.
Have not chosen one yet.

I haven't resolved the issue but I haven't really tried very hard. My experience with this card has been bad. However, it seems I am the only one who bought this card and tried to use it in the X51V with unsatisfactory results. Everyone else is saying it works. Maybe I got a card out of a new batch where some little something was done differently, or maybe my Axim is of a newer or older batch than others on this board. Maybe meritline changed suppliers. I can only tell you that I took the Transcend TS4GSD150 out of the package and popped it into my X51V with Firmware A12 and it will not recognize the card as a full 4GB, only 1GB. If I had plenty of money I'd spend another $55.00 and see if I got the same results, but for now I'm just giving up and swapping among several 1GB cards I already have. I can't recommend this card but it seems I'm the only one who feels this way. If you buy one please post your results.
sorry 2 hear dat but my card works perfectly outta da box. Only problem was my lap internal sd reader wanted 2 format it after I installed prgs, mp3's etc. thru a 2.0 usb card reader. I eventually backed up the card & formated it in my laptop & now its reads the contents so I dont hafta use the card reader.

I had to reformat my card reader on my laptop to read a 4GB SD card which was fairly painless driver install, but after that I formatted my card to Fat16 and it has worked great....Got my Axim two weeks ago and the Transcend 4GB card a week ago.
I bought one of these 4gb SD cards for my Canon camera. I first just had to see what my X51V would do with it. It worked perfect. Speed was not increased but my device recognized every bit of the 4gb capacity. I was able to put files on it from my PC and alter them with applications on my unit. I was also able to sync with no issues.

From what I've read on the different forums, and from my personal experience with my 4Gb Transcend SD card, it is unlikely your SD card is defective.
It is much more likely the card reader you have is too old / unable to format the card correctly.
I had the exact same problem with my card - when I first put the card in my axim - only 900 or so Mb were recognized.
The card reader in my computer could only format the card to less than 1 GB.
Same with the card reader in my canon printer.
Finally - a friend of mine formatted the card in his new Pentax Optio W20 camera - and voila - 3918 MB!
The Optio W20 camera is relatively new.
So I think you need to try to format the card in a relatively new card reader - before concluding the card is a dud.
Maybe you can visit a local tech store - maybe they'll allow you to try and format the card in one of their new on-display digital cameras.
Are you using a today plugin to check the size of the card?
How about checking in Settings>Memory>Storage card?

I don't know what a today plugin is, but when I first opened the TS4GSD150 and put it in my Axim I went to Start>Settings>System>Memory> Storage Card and saw that it recognized my card as 957MB. I then put it in my computer's card reader and it read as 3.82GB. That's when I formatted it and put it back in the Axim, hoping that formatting it on the computer would help, but it still reads as 967MB.
UPDATE (while I was getting ready to post a reply):
While checking to make sure I had followed the steps you suggested before I replied to the post, I put the 4GB card in one more time, turned the Axim on, and went to Start>Settings>System>Memory> Storage Card. It read as 968MB on the SD card. I exited out of all that, went into Word Mobile, clicked the SysInfo.txt file, and then closed Word. Then I went back to Start>Settings>System>Memory> Storage Card, and it read as 3918.2MB.
So my Axim is now reading the full capacity of my card. Since I have checked it at least a dozen times in the System menu, but this was the first time actually using the card in the Axim, my guess is by opening the SysInfo file the Axim puts on the card it triggered something to make it read the whole thing. My Transcend card is now working. Thanks to everyone who posted.
I just received my
TRANSCEND SD TS4GSD150 R
TRANSCEND CF TS4GCF120 R
Both are 4GB. I had no problems with my Axim X51V seeing them.
I did a copy from my original 2GB SD card to the CF, swapped the 2GB
with the 4GB SD and copy from the 4GB to the new 4GB SD.
Worked perfectly.
I have (2) USB flash media reader/writers. Both are Dazzle.
One of the 2 could see the 4GB SD while the other one said it wasn't
formated did I want to format. I knew the card was formatted because
I already copied the data to it and it worked perfectly in the Axim.
I am guessing the firmware in the reader needs to be updated.
I bought both cards from Newegg. Came to $93 total which included a extra
$2.99 for rush packing and handling. Ordered on a Monday and got it Friday.
