Sleep HELP: cannot format Kingston 4GB SDHC card

I got a Kingston 4GB SDHC card, and try to format it using a card reader/writer supporting both SD and SDHC. I tired to format it at FAT32, failed, then tried FAT, also failed. A same error message was reproted "The format did not complete successfully".

I checked the Driver from the properties dialogbox. It is "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", and is dated 7/1/2001. I tired to update the driver automatically from Microsofts website, but nothing new is found.

I though the driver be too old. How can this problem be resolved?

Thanks a lot,

Are you sure the reader's SDHC-capable? It's not a driver issue; Windows sees an SDHC card reader the exact same way it would see an SD card reader - the changes were to hardware, not software.

I'd suggest trying to get another SDHC-capable reader, like a newer Sandisk MicroMate reader... or another SDHC card to see if the reader's the problem. Either way, I think your card's dead.

The card reader/writer used is ScanDisk MobileMate SD+ SDDR-103. I saw the "SDHC" symbol on its box. But on ScanDisk's website, it is not claimed to support SDHC.

As yet axim and SDHC are not known to be compatible, and it is such a new technology that I would not think it would be supported by many older devices.

Both the Sandisk MobileMate and the Axim are not compatible with SDHC cards.
Sorry mate.

Yes thats really true. Only SD or CF cards will work in a Axim. The new faster SDHC cards will not work.

Similar problem:
"The format did not complete successfully"

I have (or maybe had !) a 4gb SD Transcend (normal speed)
While trying to copy map files the card dissappeared from my x51v.
I formated it in an external card reader.
I tried to copy files again and it dessappeared again
Now, while trying to format it in the reader, windows start format and at 100% says "The format did not complete successfully".

I'm going for a 8GB CompactFlash card now, since 4gb SD is NOT A STANDARD (check http://www.sdcard.org/) and dell can not read HCSD cards

Take the card back - there's a chance you killed it trying to format it in a non-SDHC capable reader. Also, see if you can pick up a 4GB Sandisk SDHC card, since it comes with a MicroMate reader which is SDHC-capable...

Icon14 Fixed

Folks,

I had the same problem! Try this:

Go to sdcard.com, click on "Consumers" then on "SD Formatter"

Worked for me :)
