I don't know about 8GB SanDisk cards, but members here, including myself, have used 8GB CF cards from other brands successfully. I have an 8GB Transcend card in my X51v now for about a month and have not had any problems. Check the Sticky at the top of this forum. SanDisk is a premium brand and tends to be more expensive, but one of the few that offers higher capacity than 8GB. Definitely let us know if you decide to try the 12GB or 16GB cards.
The 12 GB as of right now has 1 left in stock. Last night, there were three. I could really use the space for all of my music as I don't have enough to fill up a regular Ipod, but more than enough to fill a nano. I have around 12 GB so far and it is on the rise. So I am sure I'll be going with 16 GB. I will surely let you all know.
Thanks for the help.

We're apparently the most polite city in the world according to recent studies.
But I did some research on Sandisk's site and they say that the card is compatible with all the previous models of the Axim: x3 and x5. I have a feeling that they just haven't gotten around to updating their site. So I just placed the order for the 16 GB card because the 12 GB sold out just a few minutes ago. I asked for expedited shipping so I hope to get it soon and let you all know.
I am SO excited.

Wow, 16GB! I thinkl you'll be the first kid on the block with this one here. Combine this with a 4GB SD card and you'll be packing 20GB plus built in storage capacity for your X50v.
It's a lot, but I realistically, I don't think the prices will drop substantially enough beyond this for it to be reasonable for me. The list price is $900 and it will drop from there, not from $300. That is if the price drops at all. It will be so worth it for me because I plan to use my Axim for as long as possible. So long in fact, that I just bought a second one in case the one I am using now decides to crap out like my previous one did.
Update: IT WAS DELIVERED TODAY. That's the good news. Bad news is I won't be able to pick it up until Wednesday. God...the waiting is going to kill me I swear.

That's good news for you! Let us know how it goes.
Now the bad news....hate to be a downer...but the laws of tech never fail..once you buy something, the price will drop or newer technology will come along. Prices come down, its inevitable. For example, you can pick up an 8GB Kingston CF card from Adorama(.com) for $50'ish after $65 mail-in rebate. Whether the price drop is significant is in the eyes of the beholder.
Dell currently has the SanDisk 16GB Extreme III CF card for $279.99 shipped, with tax this would be about $303.44 for NYC area. Not too much of a difference and 16GB CF cards are the high end for CF cards for now, so enjoy what you got! We're all drooling to read your impressions on the new storage card!
If someone jumped on the Dell deal which I posted where tax is a lot, like NY, they could have saved a couple of bucks from Amazon, which has the 16GB CF card now directly from Amazon for $299.99 shippped.
when I first got my x5 all I had was a 256Mb cf card and found out quickly for movies and music I needed more space so I buy the 1gig cf when they were about as much or more than the price of my axim a few months later the 4gig cf cards came out then the price started dropping on th 1gig cards when the 4gig cards went down to $200.00 I bought 1 now you can get them for under $100.00 So I am waiting this one out this time hopefully to get a 16gig for around $200.00 but if you got the cash and cant wait I dont blame you having loads of storage is very usefull to me music and videos eats it up fast
