Ipaq File Store can be formatted with Resco File Explorer, there is a link to their site in MyPDA.
1. Open Resco 2. Hold you stylus down on the IPF 3. A menu will pop up 4. Select "format"

tristians soulution sounds very good... the problem you have is that the filename is indeed corrupted, and the file is most likely spread out in pieces all over the file stores memory map...you have the equivalent of a highly fragmented disk, with lost clusters... and added to that your ability to reformat or correct it has been removed
in the o/s or add on features. tristians pgm sounds good..i hope it works.. other wise, you will need to go into the registry, and delete the key for the store folder..and do a hard reset.. that should fix it... it really does burn me that we have no functionality like real windows in the 4700... there was a guy who made this shell add on for 2003...made it look and work like xp ...and it did..but it was horribly slow..and tailed the mouse terribly... left its drag tracks all over the screen and you couldnt get rid of them... it was a shame because it made 2003 just like xp...

Solution to your problem!
Hey all,
I had the same with my hx4700. The filestorage cannot be formatted as it uses a hp-only filesystem. The utilities on the market, freeware or commercial alike, are only capable of handling the fat32 filesystem which is used on expansion cards. Some of the ipaq models still use that filesystem, but the hx4700 for example DOES NOT. (grrr..) Solution: _______ Back up all of your files (do not use a program like sprite backup as it will be useless if your rom version was not the same, restore won't work), at your own risk download the ROM update and the firmware update from HP (http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...1120_6089.html) under the section BIOS updates. Follow all the instructions from HP and update the ROM with the RUU software, then do a firmware update as described. You should now have a clean, ready to use, empty ipaq file storage. F^$#ckers at HP don't even know when you call their support department or their online help system. Inadequate m$#$f%%ckers Good luck and don't blame the messenger. -Charles

I used the Ipaq File Store utility to format my device but I performed a soft reset before it was finished because I thought it had locked up and I now have a DEAD device. The ROM does not run correctly and even after soft/hard resets, it hangs at the boot up screen Please--I beg that someone will help me so I don't have to pay $80 or more to get this fixed!

Ipaq File Store System Board
Hi all...
My file store did the same thing... wouldn't allow me to erase delete format or use any files stored there... like using a music file in media player would lock up the device. I tried every software available, soft/hard resets,,, reinstalled ROM's... etc.... No luck. I've sent my 3715 to HP and they said that it's was the system board. They replaced it, sent it back to me... it worked for two weeks then did it again... i've sent it to them again. This time it would do the same thing but then would lock up when i tried to use the backup file. This seems to be an error with the file store and the system board failing. But i've noticed that i use Memaid and PocketTweak. I put my PIE cache to the file store and it seems to work for a while then it locks up the device... I wonder if the combination of the two tweaking softwares mess up the system. Either way it sucks... I worked with a tech supervisor from HP for 90 minutes trying to get it to fix itself. For those who think it can be fixed with a software fix... good luck because it's a hardware issue... Hope this helps.... Craig

It isn't a hardware issue, HP make it out to be a hardware issue, half the times I sent mine away to fix they didn't actually change the mobo (long story why I know), I got sick of it so took a fix that worked for the odd device and altered it to make it work for nearly all devices, take a look at my "My PDA" for a do it yourself fix. I have done it a good 10 times on my own device and know a lot of people on this forum who it has helped on a number of fixes, not just the filestore.

My "My PDA" now updated with hints and tips including a ROM fix for the RX3700 series and installing Transport Tycoon onto your PDA.
