iPAQ File Store is CORRUPT! Cannot delete some files
Hello friends.

I copied some files from my PC to the iPAQ File Store...

They are files with long names, about 120-130 characters. The really annoying problem is that I can not delete those files! They are only two files, but I have 1 MB spent in them... I only can say "ouch". I've tried everything to get rid of those files:
- deleting the parent folder.
- changing the names.
- deleting them one by one.

The file explorer shows that they are system files, but I saw in other file manager (Total Comander) that they're not. This "Total Commander" is also not able to remove them from the iPAQ File Storage saying that they are not accesible. And I think so! I saw this problem in hard disks when the file system is corrupt, but how can I fix this strange file store?? Not a card, not standard memory... so how to deal with?

Please help me, all the knowledge is welcome.
Thank you very much.

Try a soft reset and make sure nothing in the startup folder is launching and opening the files.

Ops... I even did a hard reset and the two files are still not deleteable. It appears like they are not accessible.

Is it possible to browse to the files and delete them through Activesync?

Thanks, I've tried the utility you mention but it is not able to format the iPAQ File Store. It only "sees" my Compact Flash card.

In response to the other friend that asked me to delete them from the PC using ActiveSync: I also have tried it, but it says the files are "read only". But that's only an incorrect message I suppose, because I've checked the "readonly" flag and it's not set.

The files are always there... who had the idea of not letting us to format the File Store?? I saw that in other models this could be done!

Please, post you oppinions.
Thank you all.

Can you rename the files? and then try to delete them
- also go to Settings> System> Memory> Running Programmes> and choose stop-all before you try to delete them.

Renaming... only the parent folders

The only things I can rename is the parent folders of those two files.

The structure is this:

iPAQ File Store
Folder1
Folder2
Filename_non_deleteable1
Filename_non_deleteable2

I can rename Folder1 and 2 but the files (that have very long names), are not accesible. They are jpg images. I tried to see them but the applications always fail and show a blank rectangle instead an image. I think it is because the files are unaccesible.

Thanks for you attention and you answer, but you see: it's a hard bone!

Just to let you know spaces are deleted so your 'picture' doesn't read properly. I believe you were trying to say that the structure was:
Folder1>Folder2>Filename_non_deleteable1
Folder1>Folder2>Filename_non_deleteable2

Can you try to delete Folder1 or folder2? what happens then? it sounds as if the files don't really exist in the allocation table - so that would stop you from deleting them directly (as your PPC doesn't believe that they exist).

If not you need to find something to format the filestore - I can't remember if a programme that can do this - but I believe that some do.

Anyone else able to help? - especially with the formatting of the filestore?

My two files contain spaces!! every word it has, a space following...
I've tried to delete the parent folders (F1 is parent of F2, F2 is parent of the two files). It first say whether I'm sure to delete the folder and all the contents, I press "Yes" and then it says that it "cannot delete [name of file1]"

You see. For the device, that files only exists in name.

The right way to approach the problem is, as you say, the formatting of the File Store. I cannot find ANY tools that does this.

I the technical support they said me that I would empty the auxiliary battery (take the charge to 0%) and that this should reset the File Store. But alse said that it only works with some models of iPAQ.

Will it work on hx4700??

If not, is there a way to format this strange storage device?

Goto Start -> Settings -> System. You should see a icon called Format Storage. This utility will format the iPAQ File Store.

I've been searching for System/Format Storage, but I think that the HX4700 doesn't have it in their default settings. A most recent thread mentions a very similar issue. Have you found a solution?

Thanks.
