Ipaq won't recognize storage card
I have a Navman GPS enhancement for my Ipaq 3955 that I have been using successfully since July, 2004. While I was not using it during October, I uncased the unit from the GPS enclosure to use the regular case. Last week I put the Ipaq back into the GPS enclosure and noticed that it kept saying no maps were loaded. I reset the unit and then got the Storage Card2 Warning asking if I would like to format the 256MB storage card. When I finally answered yes, I still got an error code 0. I have tried different storage cards with the same problem. The GPS program works fine until it looks for a map on the storage card. How do I fix this?

Based on some of the limited info I assume that you are using a SD card to store your maps and a expansion sleeve for for the GPS. Am I correct?

Are you able to use your cards on your PC.

Your assumptions are correct.

I do not have a reader currently attached to this PC, but tried the card in my video camera and it works fine. Likewise, the camera's card placed into the Ipaq's slot gives the same error indications.

OK.... It is entirely possible that you could be looking a hardware issue with your slot. Generally I would check first to see if it is the card. But you have done that already. I don't think a hard reset will correct it. It is worth a shot though. You can do a full backup of your PPC and then do a hard reset. As soon as the PPC is reset try and see if you card works. If not then you can restore your PPC back to what it was.

Also try and see if there are any damaged or bent pins in the SD slot.

I've never done a complete backup of the system because I'm not sure just how to do it. When I select iPAQ Backup there isn't enough storage space on the device and it does not give me the option to save it anywhere else...like to my 120GB external USB hard drive. Any suggestions???

ROM flashes work wonders. Is there a ROM update available for your unit? Doing a ROM flash will force you to do a hard reset, which is what whitelyt suggested, so make sure you back up. Most people do a back-up via a storage card, which you can't do because of your problem. I would reccomend getting rid of everything you don't need (make sure you keep your install files and registration numbers) and then back-up all that's left to the iPaq file store.
