There is no "advantage" from one to the other.
I think that the Type II was created more or less for the MicroDrives, GPS, WiFi cards, etc.
I believe that most regular ol' CF cards are Type I and the others are Type II (as listed above).
It's just a form factor.
Kind of like SD cards, and the newer mini-SD cards.
Both do the same thing, just with a different form (size).
Type I are thinner than the Type II.
Type I will fit in a Type II slot, but a Type II card will not fit in a Type I slot.
Most devices nowadays have the Type II slot, so it's really not an issue.
