SD Card Poped Out and gets Lost
I have an HP iPAQ hx4705 and twice my 1 G and 2 G Secure Digital card has poped out and been lost. I now keep tape over the SD slot, but this makes it difficult to remove the card when needed. A friend with Treo 650 showed me a great software solution for this problem for the Palm system called Card Keeper by Dougles Anderson (www.byteswapped.com). This software checks if the SD card was ejected every 10 seconds then vibrates and sound a loud alarm. Has anyone hear of a similar software product for the PocketPC or anyother good solution to stop SD card from poping out at the wrong time?

Well the iPAQ 4700 series doesn't have a vibrator motor in it, but I suppose there could be an app that sounds an alarm. Problem is that the iPAQ would have to be on to search for the card and therefore means you'd have to leave the ipaq on all the time which is pretty impractical. Unless the software would run when the device is in standby?

Are you using a case or holder of some sort? On a previous post some months ago there were some who had spontaneous ejection of the SD card. Even though I haven't had it happen to me, I have fabricated a piece of stiff clear plastic (the sort that comes with shirt box's or other products commonly available) to fit over the card slots. It is the width of the cards, and enough to cover to the front. At that point it is bent at a right angle and the remainder of the plastic (about an inch or so) is slid between the case and the 4700. It could be taped to the back of the PPC if you didn't have a case I suppose. It looks better than tape (almost invisible) and is easilly removable, unlike tape. It may not stop the card from ejecting, but will stop it going anywhere.

How about a software application that runs in the background in stanby mode like the alarm modes work that would sound an alarm and flash the leds and also flash the screen brighly for 5 minutes after the SD card is removed? Thanks for the reminder that the 4705 does not have a vibrator motor.

Haven't heard of any software, but perhaps buying a case for your Ipaq that covers your SD slot would work.

The Magnum case has a flip-top, so the hinge protects the SD & CF slots when the case is shut - other flip-top cases should offer the same kind of protection.

I understand using a case will solve the problem but I'd like to see HP fix this obvious issue. It's happened several times to me so I moved everything to filestore and stopped using the card.

Well, I've had it with SD cards and this 4700 of mine. I removed the SD card because it was ejected twice and I replaced it with the plastic blank that comes with the Ipaq. Now the blank is missing.

The only experience I've had with a CF card was one that I had that was for wi-fi only (old PPC) and it stuck out from the top of the PPC by about 3/4 inch. If I buy a CF card for memory use only, will it fit flush with the top of the 4700 ?

buzzzqwert, CF cards sit flush with the top of the 4700

(well, actually, they sit a millimetre or so lower than the top)

SD Card Won't Seat - Wants To Pop Out
In my X51v I inserted one SD card for another and as I inserted the SD card, it felt as if there was a spring loading pushing it out - hence it won't seat all the way down. I've inserted SD cards many times, so I know it was facing correctly sliding down its grooves on the side. I can't see any of the 5 or 6 pins that might be bent, they are all oriented the same.

Is there some trigger or blocking tab in there because I see a little black tab extending form the side in the cavity slot where the pins are.

Any help would be appreciate.
