2 GB SD card with only 970 MB memory
Hello!

I have recently bought a 2 GB SD card for my iPAQ 4415. I copied Wikipedia, some MP3 as well as other data on it and everything was working fine.

Yesterday I tried to install a dictionary on the SD card but the installation was not successful as it was not able to read some files from the SD card afterwards. After I have deinstalled the dictionary all the data on the SD card was gone! I was not able to see it any more in the iPAQ Explorer nor in the XP Explorer on my laptop. However, when I opened the memory information in the iPAQ preferences it was still indicating that 1.7 GB of the SD card was used.

I have a backup of the data that has been on the SD card so I tried formating it with FAT / FAT32 using the SD card reader in my XP laptop. The problem is now that in the XP Explorer as well as in the iPAQ the card shows only 970 MB free memory and I cannot put more data on it. I'd appreciate any hints how I can get back the 2 GB memory. Thanks for your help.

Regards, Tanja

Good Morning, Tanja -
I'd get a copy of pocketmechanic, at http://www.antontomov.com/, and give it a try. I believe it's still a free trial for 15 days. PM will check out the card and see if it's damaged in any way, and let you format it out on the ipaq.
Good Luck

I tried formatting the SD card with the card reader of another PC. It worked and now I have 2 GB memory again! :-) But thanks for the link anyway.

Glad you got it straightened out. I'd still download the trial of PM and check the card and see if there is a reason it got hosed in the first place.

I think your card reader has problem
because I had 2 card reader, that one showed 470MB when I put my 4GB SD card in!!!, while the other simply don't support 4GB CF (I throw both as trash)
