how low can prices go

I am seeing 512mb cards this week for $20, 1G for $40 and 2G for $60 or $70

How low do you think prices will go before they bottom out?

Like many things, it depends on supply and demand. If more manufacurers are producing them and demand stays they same, then price goes down. It also depends on if newer (bigger capacity) cards are about to come out. Generally when the larger capacity cards come out, the demand for the lower capacity ones drop when people opt to spend for the larger cards.

Not sure how different flash memory in a SD Card differs from the on board memory for a PPC but I can't wait to see a PPC with 4GB's of flash memory. The HTC Muse is supposed to have this and I just read today about a new fujitsu GPS PDA that is supposed to have 4GB's of flash memory.

Seems like we had a discussion several months ago and If I remember correctly the memory used as RAM is faster and is more efficient when it comes to power consumption, battery life, (remember that pre-WM5 everything in RAM was kept alive by a trickle of battery power even when the device was off) and the flash memory in CF/SD was more like the memory used in ROM on the PPCs. Now that WM5 is out and you don't have worry about losing your data when the power drains out, they probably can put more of the cheaper flash memory onboard for persistent storage (that was one of the reasons that several devices had so much more file store than RAM and aggravated everyone pre-WM5). It will be interesting to see how things go now.

Ya the prices the last 2 weeks have been crazy! I was able to get a 2GB sandisk SD card for 63 CAD... crazy cheap now... I'm waiting for cheap 4GB CFs now...

Amazon.com doesnt allow shipping for electronics or what not to canada... only books, cds and dvds i believe... Amazon.ca doest have the same item either..

Even if they shipped it over here, Customs would ding me like an additional 30-40 i'm guessing, kinda killing the deal

I was in office depot about 2 weeks ago and store dude told me that sales on flash memory are on a 3 week cycle. Every third week it will be on sale. It seems that the other stores are following suit.
Unfortunately for O.D. I got 1 G , S.D. and C.F. from Comp Usa last week for $40 each.
It is grand to be able to swap a G of pictures in and out of your machine for one's viewing pleasure when you're sitting some where bored .
