moving apps from SD->CF

Is there an easy way to move all my apps and data off my SD card onto my new CF card?

I need to clear out my SD slot to make way for the new OCN6 software I have coming, so I bought a 4GB CF card to hold my apps and data. Up to now, I've installed all my software on the SD card.

I did xcopy all the SD card to the CF card in a multi-card reader; all the files and such are moved over, but the X50 doesn't recognize that the apps are not on the SD card anymore... was hoping I'd be able to get around reinstalling everything.

I do have sprite backup... would that help me in this situation?

Thanks,

Galen

The registry and shortcuts are still pointing to the SD card. You need to rename the CF card to whatever the SD card is called. Then the applications will be recognized again on your Pocket PC. See this link for more information:

From my Pocket . . . Moving to a larger storage card

If you are adventerous, you can try the freeware Download Mobile AppMover 1.06 for Windows Mobile Smartphone - Softpedia to move the references to a different card once you copy the files.

Or you can take this riskier approach, since you have Sprite backup, backup everything into a self restoring file (so that even if you have to competely hard reset, you don't have to install anything to restore), then use something like Tascal Registry Editor to export your registry. (It's free and it worked for me when I did exactly the same thing.) Then copy the resulting .reg file to your PC, use Wordpad or Notepad to edit it. Do a global search/replace for "SD Card" and change to "CF Card" and save the file with a new name. Copy it back to the pda, rerun TRE, import the updated file and soft reset. If it works, congratulations. If it doesn't, restore from Sprite and either try again or use some other approach.

If you want to go more slowly, instead of global search/replace, you can do it one at a time, but it gets pretty boring after a while. :rolling:

I'm more adventurous, so I took the "go ahead and do it" approach.

Does anyone know if I could use this to move an entire application from Memory to an SD card.

I have installed nearly all my programs onto SD, but some files, such as Opera's Cache are still in main memory. Main reason I wanted Opera on SD was hoping the Cache would be stored there....

This looks like it will work, but wanted to check with people first to maybe save myself some time.

It would probably be easier to just hard reset and re-install everything under the new configuration once you have the new card. You'll spend a whole lot more time if you try to micromanage everything. Besides you'll probably find some things you don't use anymore and won't bother to re-install. I used my Ax for 2 years and spent just a few hours rebuilding it a couple weeks ago for similar reasons. A lot less headache just reloading it all properly. Worked properly the first time after I was done; no "hanging" goodies.

Pocket Mechanic Professional can move installed applications or application data like a charm. It will properly update the registry, shortcuts and other data needed to insure a successful relocation. The application has a free 30-day trial period.

I've the same problem - my OCN6 is here now.

So far, I only have minimal applications installed. Mostly from Dell
in original shipping package, Opera, and a game.

My biggest worry is the A012 ROM, VGA tweak, the Odessy Notification
fail thing. Forgot where I install them. I suppose they should all be
in the non-volatile SD card??
