For the most part, those are suppose to be used in place of a hard drive. If you looked at the specifications, most of the solid state disks use hard drive interfaces (IDE and SATA) and some use the ExpressCard connector so that they can be used through a laptop's ExpressCard slot. They are called solid state drives because they are based on flash memory rather than the magnetic technologies of hard drives (no moving parts meaning more rugged, low power usage, higher/better speeds/access times versus being more expensive, much smaller in capacity in comparison to their magnetic counterparts). The only formats I have ever seen supported by any Axim are Secure Digital (CD) and Compact Flash (CF).
