Question Problem Instaling Programs to SD Card

I have a 2GB SD card on which I install all my software.

It contains 499 folders and 7006 files. Total Space is 1.92 GB, Used Space is 1.59 GB and Free Space is 339.94 MB (89.69% used).

Whenever I try to install additional software I get the message "Cannot copy the File, Make sure.....that the Mobile Device has space available.....".

I install new software my installing it to my CF card and the moving it to my SD card using Pocket Mechanic's excellent Relocate function. This works without any problems and the new software then runs correctly form the SD card.

Although 10% of my SD card space is free, it will not accept any additional software except as I have indicated above.

Has anyone else had this problem? Would getting a larger SD card (4 GB) help?

Programs tend to write information as they are being installed and then delete it once installed.
Generally speaking, programmers build in a fixed amount of disk space that the program needs for installation, less than that and it won't install.
Having so little space left on your card will tend to cause that problem even though the final used space of the program is less than the space available.
That explains why you can install to you CF and then move it to your SD.

So, the simple answer is, Yes, a larger card will solve the problem untill you reach the point where it is nearly full again.

Many thanks BOX. This is pretty much what I expected.

The only problem is that here in the UK the largest SD cards I can find are 2 GB. I could get a 4 GB SDHC card but I don't know if my X50v could read it. Do you happen to know? Also do you know a supplier in the US or anywhere else who sells 4GB SD cards (not HC)?

I am extremely grateful for your help.:approve:

I bought the Transcend 4 GB SD card from NewEgg and it works fine in my hx2415. (link is in "Transcend 4 GB SD" string).

Your x50 will only read regular non-hc cards. There are a few 4gb ones out there. Julie pointed out the one on newegg, not sure if they ship overseas.

But, you can also get a new cf card. You never mentioned the size of your current one, but cards up to 16 and even 32gb should work. I have an 8gb that works fine, all 8gb seen on 2003se.
I actually prefer to use the cf for programs and the sd as a removable slot, b/c the sd is spring loaded and removes easier. My cf card acts like a permanent drive, i almost never take it out.
