Are San Disk CF cards okay?

www.ecost.com has a 1 GB San Disk CF card for $149 and a 2 GB San Disk for $299.

I know there are problems with San Disk SD cards with X5's but what about San Disk CF cards? ... sure would be nice if this would work!

Thanks,

No known issues with CF cards by San Disk.

I don't know if mine is a one-off but I had a problem with a 512 Sandisk CF card. I'm not trying to bash Sandisk because their customer support worked with me on three returns but here's the deal. I had a X5 with PPC 2002 and the CF card supposedly had faster read/write capability than my X5. This meant that when I placed MP3's on it, it would skip just like a bad CD. The card was subsequently sold to my co-worker for her digital camera. It has worked fine because digital cameras have buffers when they read off the card. Hopefully, this makes sense to you guys out there.

BTW, I have two 256 Sandisk SD cards and one 256 Sandisk CF card that has worked perfectly.

I had a Sandisk CF card that was bad over a year ago. I exchanged it and purchased two additional Sandisk CF cards and have had no other troubles.

I had the exact same problem with a 512Mb card. Sandisk customer support are obviously on a PR mission, because they were incredibly receptive to the problems I had and arranged for a replacement within a few days.

Having said that, I would not recommed the 512Mb CF cards - the replacement has the same problem. I just haven't got around to contacting Sandisk. Maybe it's just the 512Mb cards?

I've had problems with my 512Mb Sandisk CF. Whenever i would try to play WMA formatted files it would skip and stall. I switched to a 512 SD from Sandisk, and i'm having no problems with it.

Go n'eire an ta leat.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought a 2GB SanDisk CF card a month ago from ecost.com for $135. I do have some issues. I mainly store photos for Resco Photo Viewer and MP3s for PocketMusic player. Both applications have frequent problems accessing their respective files. Photo Viewer will indicate that the files are not readable and PocketMusic will lock-up while trying to load or play MP3s directly or from M3U list files. The problem is always resolved immediately after doing a soft reset. I've never had this problem with my 128MB Kodak CF or my 32MB Kingston & 64MB Fujifilm SD cards. With prices steadily coming down, I'll eventually use the 2GB SanDisk CF for something else and get another brand. But for now, the problems are acceptable.
