SD HD may not be possible
the major problem is mechanical part...
another problem is the capacity, it may not able to exceed 1G...now 1G SD sells for cheap, even 49.99 after rebate
Secure Digital Drive is just an idea, not practical

** Backup one SD card to the other when no PC is available.

** Stick a video-out card in one and display PowerPoint presentations or JPEGs stored on the second card.

** Put occasional use software on one, data on the other.

Wow, i really have to agree with you on this, that does sound like it would be really useful

I was hoping by now there would be many all-in-one devices including memory for the SDIO slot. As of now there is only a Wi-Fi and 256 memory card all in one.

There is NOT an adapter to insert a CF card in an SD slot. Even if there were, it would be hanging outside of the PocketPC and not be very practical at all for a mobile device.

There IS an adapter to insert an SD card in a CF slot. And generally with these, the SD card is completely encased into the CF adapter so that it does not stick out of the PDA.

I dnn't know if I agree that flash mem. will outdo mini drives for all uses.

I.E., the largest and cheapest memory for MP3 player right NOW are hardrives. Flash mem. pales in comparison. 20 - 60 gb.

I suspect, it depends on which company is willing to do the R&D to miniturize memory.

Sorry, just one more thought. Regarding durability, does anyone go jogging with their Axim's?

Might as well just include a USB slot in the next Axim and use the existing memory sticks that are out there.

But this is comparing two completely DIFFERENT things. In this post, you're comparing a 60GB 1.8" Harddrive to a ~0.85" SD card. Try stuffing a 1.8" harddrive in a PDA and watch how much larger the PDA will grow in size/weight. In terms of SMALL memory, flash-based is definitely the way things are heading. I can't even see why a company would bother doing R&D for an SD form-factor hard drive, as it would be much cheaper/faster/efficient to use flash-based memory.

I'll be surprised if you ever see an SD-based HDD get very widespread in the industry.

I use mine on a motorcycle. The vibration doesn't seem to harm it. That same vibration has been known to destroy iPods unless you carry them in your pocket.
