Is there a part or model # anywhere on the package/card?

SanDisk no longer lists this card on their website, but it is probably 8x. Is it the traditional blue with white & red labelling?

The part no. is SDSDB-1024-A10A.

Also, it is the traditional SanDisk colors.

If it is only 8x, why is it so expensive?

Dell makes higher profits on accessories, and 8x is sufficient for normal storage. If speed is important to you, return the card for a refund and get a faster card elsewhere.

I looked high and low for any details on the speed of that card and couldn't find any numbered speed rating. Given that, I would say it's probably the normal 8x speed. As fulltext said above, if you need speed I would return it for refund and shop elsewhere. I just ordered a 1Gig 60x Kingmax SD card from www.newegg.com for $74, which is less than $10 more than the SanDisk 1Gig 8x that they also sell. I figure for less than ten bucks I'll go with the faster card.

I don't mean any offense by my quote, Lalisb. If you read through my posts here you will find that I am respectful and helpful each and every time I post. My quote is simply a view of my world as I see it, and is a comment about me without mention of anyone else. If you would like to discuss it further, please feel free to email or PM me through Aximsite. I would of course be as respectful in a private conversation as I am in public.

I also have a Lexar 512Mb 32X and the speed is great for video and music. Like ranger said return to Dell if you are unhappy about it. You usually have 30 days.
