I'm in the market for 2 512mb high-speed 60x or 80x, rather than a single 1gb card. I'd rather get a Lexar or Sandisk Ultra II, and would rather have 2 cards to split data such as ebooks, music, maps and programs, plus backups to each in case of loss.

How are people saying 1gb or higher?? I thought the current maximum size for sd was 1gb???
The higher capacity SD cards are on the way. Someone mentioned in one of the other forums that Sandisk will have a 2 GB SD card out yet this fall.
At this point I wouldn't purchase anything smaller than a 1GB card as the prices are just so darn good. And you can never have enough storage space. I don't like carrying around a lot of cards so that a large capacity SD card is the way for me to go.
Followup Post:
It looks to me that the one on sale is NOT the 32x, even though the description of the product says so. I found the 32x on sale for $88 but apparently the rebate is NOT for the high speed one: http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=430152
32x:
Part No. : 2481228
Mfg. Part No : SD1GB-32-231
Regular:
Part No. : 2603352
Mfg. Part No : SD1GB-231 <==listed on rebate form for $20
Yup....looks like you are right. If this is really true I could return it if I wanted but I'll probably still keep the card anyway. I have never had any problems playing videos or music from the 1X cards and I use a card reader to copy files to the SD card which goes relatively quickly.
Have to be very careful when buying from e-cost.com. It looks like they removed the 32x from the description of the Lexar SD1GB-231 card now and reduced it to $55 after mail in rebate.
Maybe I am shooting in the dark but a SD card is a SD card and any brand will work. This said some brands are better (fewer problems) built. I hope this help.

As I mentioned before some card brand are built better than others. It could be due to the environment, the manupulation of components, the air filtration system was not working properly that day, who knows what could have gone wrong. Some are just better overall.

What's times X in MB / how to set requirements for a card
Hi -
I'm too looking for a 1GB SD card for my new X30H. Locally it's best for me to get a TwinMOS Media Store Ultra-X 1GB. There are two versions:
1) part FSD 1GBU - cheaper, R/W speed is 6/4.8 MB
2) part FSD 01GU - 25% more, R/W speed 11/7.5 MB
Firstly, can anyone tell me when someone says x times speed, what the relationship is to MB, e.g., what does 40X mean in MB R/W speed?
Secondly, what is a reasonable requirement to set for reading/writing mp3s, without a card reader, using Activesync with USB2? Perhaps the first one is good enough for me?
I suppose it's possible I might buy a new digital cam in the near future, about 5 megapixels. If I might want to use the card in that, would it be better to get the faster one now?
Basically, I'm looking for ideas on how to set requirements :) TIA.
