Has anyone bought the 4 gig Sandisk CF card?

Has anyone bought the 4 gig Sandisk CF card?

Currently Sandisk is the cheapest 4 gig card out there that sells for $280.

Any thought or experiences from this card?

You could save half the money by buying a Creative Muvo2 MP3 player and gutting the 4.2GB microdrive from it.

Well, microdrive is a lot cheaper, but it has the following disadvantages:

1. More noise, annoying clicks
2. More likely to be damaged if dropped
3. Drain more battery from the PPC
4. Generate more heat

The main one is #3. I heard that it can drain about 10-15% more than CF card. That is a lot of power, relatively speaking.

My advice: Stay away from the MuVo^2 4 GB microdrives, that is do not slaughter off a good and fashionable MP3 player for a hard disk that is not guaranteed to work with the Axim and may cause more problems that it's worth it. I tried one of those suckers once and only got it to work sporadically, at best ...

Besides, hard disks are naturally less reliable than flash memory and you'd have to worry constantly whether your data there is still there, and I am not even referring to those times where you might accidentally drop the Axim on the ground.

I beg to differ :rolling: The main issue, at least for me, is that the data would not be very safe on a hard disk. Flash memory is suited much more for mobile usage as it is not subject to the same restrictions and sensisitivity that characterizes hard disks.

yea, microdrives for OEMs such as creative and rio are not CF compliant because they are manufactured for that specific oem... so it's guaranteed to work in that device but not in another one...
