FAT has limitations on how many files are in one directory. I can't remember exactly how many but make sure you don't put bunch of small files in one directory.

Did you load a bunch of stuff on the card at one time and then deleted it off the card? If so did you empty the trash bin on your computer while you were still accessing the card? If you didnt empty trash then the
files or data is still on the card in the trash bin but cannot be accessed but are still taking up memory.
You need to empty trash out to fully delete these files or data and then you will have your full storage
capacity back at least it worked for me when I had that problem.

It could also have a corrupt FAT. In which case a re-format (I'd suggest replacement) might be needed.

Lexar 1GB card

Nope, this is a fresh card that I have been adding to gradually....the Axim was fine with the 256 card that preceeded it....and none of the files are terribly big that I have been loading...a mystery...thanks!!!!

I am not sure but if the filesystem is fat16 the block size will be large and with the 1 GB card you could run out of file handles in the fat table. I remember these from back in the days of old DOS. Also the root directory, at least in unix has a limit of how many files it can have in it. If you hava lot (like over 256 in root or thousands total) these could be affecting you.
I may be way off as I am new to the ppc world.
