Pocket Mechanic

I have tried to put all my music files on a Lexar 1Gb SD card. Trying various methods including syncing and using a card reader, I can't write to half of the available memory. I get an error message saying insuff memory. I tried Pocket Mechanic after reading some posts, choosing FAT 16, uncheck Backup FAT, but still can only use half the space. Wooch, if you're out there, help! Is this going to happen to my dedicated 1 Gb card I just got for my digital camera? I'd sure hate to run out of memory mid-vacation! If I get to take a vacation 'cause I have to stay at my desk trying to solve this problem! Thanks in advance!

Wooch here Sorry to see your having issues getting PM to format the card. Here is what I would suggest:

Uncheck the quick format box
Change the FAT to FAT32, and increase your cluster size. See if this helps.

OK, I think you'd be better off doing the following:

Check out this link from MS. Based on this info, I'd format it using the following paramaters in PM:

FAT: FAT16
Cluster: 32K
Uncheck all the check boxes

FAT32 is incompatible with some Digital cameras, so you'd be best to stay with FAT16 if you are planning on interchanging it.

Uh-oh, I already did the first suggestion. I'm syncing my music files now. If it doesn't work, I'll try the second suggestion. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thank you, thank you! Success! I used FAT 32, I think it was 16K cluster setting. I'm using this card exclusively for music, so no worries about photos/FAT 16 setting. I notice a lot of people are having these problems as they acquire the larger cards. Hope this helps all! Thanks again!
