Improving SD performance
Is there any way to optimize an SD card for performance? I've run several benchmarks on my Axim X30 and SD read speed seems to scale with cpu speed, but write speed does not (which is highly unfortunate because SD writes are abysmal.).

I've read that large size clusters on a FAT16 formatted card are fastest. Is this true?

Are there any software hacks/utilities to help speed things up?

Do some brands of SD work better in an Axim (with regard to speed only) - I'm under the impression that the Axim itself is the severely limiting factor.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions are appreciated.

raskren,

The card itself does make a difference. In another thread in this area, we're asking Axim owners to run a test on their memory cards to help us determine which cards do run best.

From the results we've seen thus far, AGP and Lexar are the best route to go.

This does not include Panasonic and PNY, which have said to have excellent write times (Panasonic the best).

That said, almost any SD card should work with an Axim, although old Lexar cards and some Sandisk cards have had problems.

All I can say is that the speed of the Axim is part of the situation...but another contributing factor is the speed of the card.
