1GB CF that works with x50v?
I have the Rosewill RCF-1024 Compact Flash card. It works perfectly in my card reader connected to my PC and it works perfectly in my Canon PowerShot A20 digital camera, but it DOES NOT WORK in my Dell Axim x50v Pocket PC. When inserting it into the Axim I get the message:

“Unrecognized Card Enter the name of the device driver for this card. For information, see the card manufacturer’s documentation. Unknown card in Socket 1”.

I have tried formatting it in FAT and FAT 32 in my computer and have tried formatting it in my camera – no effect. I have performed soft and hard resets on the Axim also – no effect. I've tried the "My Documents" fix and also copied files to the card - same result. I have searched Dell’s website as well as many of the Axim sites and other Pocket PC sites, and have found that this seems to be a common problem with various CF cards from many companies. I found at least one other user out there who couldn’t get the Rosewill to work in the Axim x50v. I have 2 other no-name CF cards (8MB and 128MB) which work fine in the Axim.

I'm wondering if there is a list of 1GB CF cards or larger that always work with the x50v? I haven't seen one single brand that hasn't failed for at least someone. What do you think I'd have the best chance with? Thanks for your help.

I've been using a SimpleTech 1GB CF card for quite some time now. IIRC I got it from www.newegg.com

I've been using Lexar cards exclusively and have never had a problem with either SDs or CF.

I have 1GB SD and CF cards, both "High Speed" ByteStor cards. I sometimes get a similar message on start up. I simply click on OK or Cancel which clears the message and then proceed as normal. The X50v recognises both cards perfectly well.

I may indeed be in the minority, but I've used Sandisk 1GB CF and SD cards without any problems.

I am using a 1 Gigabyte Kingston CF card that will not work. My Axim X50v reports that "card is not recognized. Enter the name of the device driver for this card." Dell tech support was unable to help, suggesting that I return the card and purchase a 512K card.

Sounds like a software bug to me.

"card is not recognized. Enter the name of the device driver for this card."

I get this message occasionally too, I think it's when the device is looking for a wifi or Lan connection and looks at the compact flash socket by mistake. I use all kinds of cards and they all seem to work even with the error message above.

I have the precise problem reported... 1GB Rosewill card works without a problem in my cameras or connected to my laptop via card reader. In the X50v it pops up the "Unrecognized card" dialog box. Soft reset doesn't solve the problem. Three other CF cards I've tried in the Axim were recognized instantly, including a 1GB card.

So, the Axim doesn't seem to be entirely at fault, nor does the memory card. Only some interaction between the two. Based on the posts here, the only common factor seems to be the size.

So.. find someone to trade cards with perhaps?
