Question x50v SD and CF max read/write speeds

After reading the various posts on the different SD and CF card speeds. I thought it would be nice to know what the max throughput of the card slots of the x50 is.

1) What is the max SD and CF read/write speeds for the x50v?

2) Does the proccesser speed have an effect on the SD and CF read/write speeds?

From our tests:

Fastest SD read: 1.48 MB/s
Fastest SD write: 0.10 MB/s
Fastest CF read: 1.12 MB/s
Fastest CF write: 0.12 MB/s

I have firmly come to believe that WRITE speed is the more important of the two numbers.

Apparently not. Early on in the original X30 thread, someone attempted different tests using different settings for processor speeds, as well as different formats (FAT vs FAT 32). Neither processor speed setting nor format significantly impacted the read/write speed of the Axim. Additionally, I've tested the same cards on a X5 and a X5 advanced. The processor speed had absolutely NO impact on performance. The X5 (300 MHz) and X5 advanced (400 MHz) ran at exactly the same speeds in terms of read/write. I found that interesting.

I hope this answered your questions.

DANG - so i just wasted my money buying a 60x card instead of a 1x? (for the purpose of the x50v)

Not necessarily. See the Results link in Choirguy's signature for card speed comparisons. Even though all SD cards are capable of write speeds faster than 0.1MB in card readers, etc., not all cards--not even all high-speed cards--can reach that speed in the Axim.
