SD card speed when partially full

I did a Spb benchmark test on my ATP 60x 1GB with a Axim X50v and i got some pretty slow results compared to what i expected. with the large file read and write i was right on target with 396ms and 633ms. however when it copied the 1MB file to and from storage much longer with times of 32,869ms and 20,336ms. although i didn't follow the test procedures exactly (ie, start from hard reset) i wanted to know what my performance was under "normal" conditions. I had over 50MB of free space in my Built-in storage and 22MB in my main memory. also, i'm using the A2 rom.

my main question is, are those long times normal?? just wanted to know as a curious computer guy.

some cards handle small files faster than others while the ones that are slow on small files might handle big files faster and the way it is formatted fat16 versus fat32 can affect how it handles small and large files
