CF Microdrives...

Are the CF microdrives you're talking about the same microdrives that you can find in the Muvo's or Ipod mini's? As described here.
Just curious, I saw this show a while back and I'm shopping for memory for my Axim now.
Edit: found more information.. These particular microdrives are selling for $168 off of Hitachi's web site, so it's not really economical to tear a player apart anymore to get the drive.

most of the ones in the ipods etc have now been modded so that they won't work in anything else. I guess those guys found out that the pda guys had figured out how to beat the price and they didn't like it. The recommendation is to use a retail version of the drive which does not have those limitations. I have the $67 2gb drive mentioned on this thread and so far it works great.

Big Dave, I see you've got an X50v and an X5 running Windows Mobile 2003. I've read that the magicstor drive doesn't work in X5s with 2003. Have you tested it out?

I'm hoping that magicstor worked on its microdrive after a lot of people complained, but I'm not holding my breath. I accidentally ordered one of these drives the other day without doing much homework on it.

Can anybody report this drive's affect on battery life, specifically in the X50v, both with the drive in stand-by and with the drive actively used?

I notices this magic store microdrive cf 2.2 gig is formatted in FAT 16 How does that compare to FAT 32. I purchased one of these beauties. It is my first micro-drive. Have not received it yet. Should I try to format it in FAT 32? And if so how does one go about doing this? What are the up and down side to this, if any?

Thanks, in advance

Be kind this is my first post!

Thanks Big Dave... At this point I've almost given up hope of this being a useful purchase, and I'm mostly just trying to figure out if I should send it back when it arrives or try to sell it on ebay.

But if it works, my world will be a slightly better place. :)

I tried it on my x5 this morning and it would not recognize it. My x5 is running OS version 2003.

It's funny... as I looked down after clicking this post, there's an advertising link for it in the bottom left corner for $89.

Now, I doubt the site admins here would steer us wrong by allowing ads from incompatable products, would they?

I'm kind of scrambling. I've had an IBM microdrive for 3 years or so and I think it's finally dieing. It was only a gig and now you can get gig SD cards so I figured I'd look for either solid state or another of these more modern mcrodrives. IBM says that they are sharing the distribution with Hitachi, but hey...for $67... a speed of 4500 rpms over 3500 by Hitachi...Why not?

Is the price too good to be true? I'm running PPC2002 (still have WinMobile 2003 in my drawer because not alot of software is yet compatible).

Does it work or not?
