I have an Axim X30 medium (slow processor, wireless), and I just got a (super-slow) PNY 512 MB SD card for it so that I can load a bunch more programs onto it. What's the best way to manage the memory?
In other words, what should be in main memory, storage card, and built-in storage? My impression is that all the files should be on the storage card, keeping the main memory as free as possible to run programs. Is this right? And can I just "cut and paste" all my files to the storage card, or do I have to reinstall everything?
I think you're right, put whatever you can on the storage card and keep memory free on your device. I don't think you can cut and paste, you either have to reinstall or use one of those explorer type programs. The problem w/these pda's is that it's alot harder to move and delete apps, so my feeling is reinstall. Also, be sure to back up often. I had to do a hard reset today, luckily everything was backed up.
Good luck,
Steve
Putt most of your files on the 512mb card, if there is a little file that you will need , like betaplayer, i might think about sticking it on the built in storage, but you basically have the right idea.
Ya, i've never had to do a hard reset, but still, make sure you back up important files, but i guess thats common sense.

well some stuff you can cut and paste. most programs accually. you just have to redo shortcuts to the programs. cutting and pasting doesn't work so well with programs that have associated file types like acrobat reader or pocket tv cuz if you try to open one of those files from a file explorer program, instead of from the program itself, it will say "can't find the program"
i haven't figured this one out. best to reinstall those i guess.
i do wish there was a way to install to a storage card/program files dir though, can't figure that out either.
one thing that might give you trouble is uninstalling programs that you've cut and pasted. i haven't accually tried it yet, i'm just guessing it might not work right.
hello there... I see you found the thread I wrote. Hope it helps explain things a bit. If not, this is the best forum to ask questions in, eh?

I have similar concerns about managing programs and data files on my X30 especially those dealing with my mapping software. I've noticed several on this forum saying that the best way to move programs from main memory to an SD card might be to do a uninstall/reinstall. What I have yet to figure out is how you can specify or control whether the reinstall goes to the SD card or just ends up in main memory again.
