SD Card Not Recognized?

Hello everyone. Am new to the forum and am hoping that someone can help me with a problem I'm having with my SD card.

Purchased an x50v and a 1 GB Sandisk SD card back in March 2005, and everything was working beautifully... until yesterday.

For some reason all of a sudden, the card wasn't being recognized by my Axim (ie, can't use/access any programs or files that were loaded on the card). I've soft-resetted and removed/reinserted the card several times to no avail. The card doesn't show up in File Explorer either.

Tried contacting Dell Chat support and wasn't given much help. Was told my only options were to try inserting the card into another Axim (which I don't own) or inserting a different SD card (which I don't own) into my Axim. I searched the forums and saw that some people questioned the reliability of SanDisk SD cards and claimed that they have a tendency to "crap out".

Any thoughts on what could have happened or what I can do to fix it? Even if I have to get a new SD card, I'd love to be able to recover the several $100 of software that I loaded on it.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Aximsite

As a test you can backup your Axim, hard reset and try the SD card again. If at this point it still do not work, you can go to an electronic store and try another SD card in the Axim.

Do you have a card reader or a utility on the Axim for formatting the card? Sometimes I get that my card has been corrupted, causing it to not be recognized, a simple reformat fixes it for me. i can't be sure if this is the same problem, but it might be worth a shot.

Thanks guys for your suggestions.

I tried hard-resetting, but that didn't work. Unfortunately, I don't have a card reader either.

However, I was lucky enough to find someone who also as an Axim and tested the card. It wasn't detected. And then I borrowed someone else's SD card, and found that after inserting it into my Axim it was recognized.

It seems fairly obvious to me that there is a problem with the card, but I don't understand why as it was working perfectly fine up to just the other day.

Is it common for cards to die just like that? What are the common causes for this?

Luckily, I called Dell and they said they would replace it for me. However, since I don't know why it happened, I'm afraid that it may happen again.

Welcome to the chaotic world of electronics. Your card hopefully comes with 5 years defect warranty. Call the vendor or the maker

SD card not reading properly

I'm having a similar problem. Except my SD card can still read/write just fine using a desktop and laptop card reader.

My SanDisk 1GB card worked just fine in my Axim for about 3 months. Then all of a sudden it doesn't work on the Axim but still works on the other 2 readers. Could there be a problem with the Axim's reader? Should I maybe try reformatting it? or is this a waste of effort because it's still fine on the other 2 readers? Also, if I hard reset, will I lose any data? I'm running Rom version A02 by the way.

Thanks,

ApeMan

I got my card working again!
It turns out that it was slightly corrupt so it would not read on the Axim but it could still read on my PC card reader. So I used my PC to scan the disk (check disk for errors). After the scan was done, I noticed a folder called FOUND.000 had been created on the card. (NOTE: You have to make sure you're not "hiding protected operating system files" to be able to see this folder). Anyway, after that, I just pulled out the card, stuck it in my Axim, and it read no problem! No loss of data or anything!

Btw, I've posted some more info on recovering lost data here. But I didn't need to do it this time since my only problem was just reading the card.

I do not know if it helps but I ran into this problem today. My card was so corrupt that my reader or my X51v could not read it. I ended up throwing it my camera and formatting it there. Works great now. Go figure.

ibergu,

Im not sure if this is your problem but i have a similiar problem where the card shows up on a reader but not in my axim. From what i found that is a compatability issue with sandisk. But theres a fix. More on this thread.
