1GB Storage card reports 294.7MB used, even when empty.

Hi all,

As the topic says. I think I know what caused it, too. I was experimenting with GSFinder+, and I was browsing my laptop's shared folder over the network.

I tried to transfer a 307MB *.avi to my storage card overnight. The next morning, there was an error message on the PPC, and no movie.

I suspect that most of the movie data is on there, invisible, and undeletable. Is there a way I can clear the thing off, without buying a USB SD card reader?

Memmaid doesn't see it, unfortunately.

The files are still there. You need to reformat to get your storage card "purged" properly. Annoying, but it happened to my SD card in this case. This problem is not particular to a specific storage card type.

So there's no way to delete files without doing a full scale format each time? I was hoping to have some music and video, and swap the video every day without deleting the music. Is that not possible?

Thank you

You can delete files if you can see them. So you can keep music and swap video w/o a problem. But in this case, if you can't see your file you have to reformat the card.

I think that you should really, really consider buying a card reader, particularly because your problem has likely been caused by not using one!

ActiveSync is not only slow but also unreliable when transfering large files like the 300+ meg file you tried to transfer. Card readers have no such problem and can, depending on the speed of the SD card, transfer a 300 meg file in a bit over one minute. Half that for a fast SD card.

Card readers can be had for under $10. The 8-in-1 ImageMate card reader (by SanDisk) costs around $15. In addition to SD it handles other card formats, too.
