I am considering a PDA Phone. what is the difference between the Mogul and Touch, also HTC on Sprint?

Well got the Mogul for Christmas - very nice. I love surfing with this thing, its pretty impressive but I will not give up my Ax.

dgoldring: I read your reviews thanks it did help in my choice, I went with the Mogul only because of email.

Hey, BlacknGold.

You can see my reviews of both phones over at Just Another Mobile Monday.

Basically, both run WM6 natively. The Touch has the superslick looking HTC TouchFlo interface (which impresses me much less than a lot of other folks). It also sports a ton of memory (almost 70GB) which does impress me.

The Mogul has the full QWERTY keyboard.

Basically, I would say go to your Sprint Store and test them both out.

As a phone, I liked the Touch a lot. However, if you need to do a lot of data entry or emailing then go with the Mogul.

Doug

I got a HTC Touch (Sprint) on November 7th. Swapped it out even, without any extra costs. I like the added ram performance and overall snap of the Touch coming from the Mogul.

I am heavily considering getting this phone. I'm not sure I want to pay what Sprint is asking for their data plans though. Otherwise looks to be a pretty sweet device.

May ask what some of you are paying per month for data?

Hey I'm new here and I'm really looking towards getting a Mogul (Tmobile Wing actually). I'd love to know where you found a plan that is only $10 a month for internet access. Also, do you know of any good/cheap plans that allow unlimited texting and data? I wouldn't mind paying the $0.20 a minute for calls.

Glad to hear that people are happy, I'm thinking of getting one or an Ipod Touch. Strange options I know but they will do some of the same things. I think I would be happier with the HTC though. How's the web browsing?

I just got my Mogul a week ago. Honestly, I thought I'd still keep my Axim around for certain tasks, such as reading, where I would want the beautiful VGA screen, but it's not happening. I think the death knell has just tolled for my beautiful x51v. Perhaps I can get the materials together and sell it...

It was such a beautiful machine. I tried to hold out as long as I could for a comparable converged device, but had to give up. Apparently, no one out there thinks that users want VGA + Phone all in one.

I'll miss my Axim. For 5 years, I've used nothing but Dell. But, WOW, this Mogul is a really nice phone. It is so wonderful to not carry TWO devices around everywhere I go.

I'm very happy with my Mogul. And, I'm really excited about the upcoming ROM update which unlocks the built-in GPS chip and EVDO-Rev A.
As for cheap plans, if you're on Sprint or are interested in going to Sprint, search Google for "SERO Plans" and see if you can get one.
I have one and my plan is about $30. per month for 500 anytime minutes, unlimited Sprint to Sprint and Nights and Weekends, unlimited internet and email and unlimited text messages.
Since my home and work are in strong Sprint signal areas, I've been very happy with my service.

Same here. I was trying to carry both for a little bit, but it's just easier to stick with one. When I look at my Axim screen now and then (still used for geocaching), it looks so huge and blurry.

I have had my Mogul for a while. I have updated the ROM to a "pre-release" version of the new ROM that is set to come out very soon. It runs great! it has GPS and the Rev A. The internet is very fast and I am very happy with it. I to had a x50v and loved it but once I used the Mogul for about a week I decided to sell it. One other thing, I also installed a threaded text messaging program that is much better then what it comes with. It is a hacked version of the Palm's texting software. Well worth the install and it is free.

Not happy
I've been using the Sprint Mogul for 3 months and am VERY unhappy.
I think at least some of the trouble may have to do with the cell service and not the device.

Mainly the issues are to do with dropped and lost calls, and the message counter not updating: it's perfectly normal for the phone to hang on my hip for hours, never ring, show one voicemail waiting, then ring once, drop the call before I can answer. I then go to voicemail and find that there are 8 messages waiting. And this all happens in a good cell-reception area.

Then there are the OS issues - if one doesn't reboot the phone at least once per day, beware.

Don't even think about going truly hands-free with this device! The BT stack is all messed up, and MS-Voice command just doesn't know how to play well with WinMobile-6...

Have spoken w/Sprint about the service issues, and the rep didn't even hestitate before suggesting they switch me back to Nextel - with a Balckberry 7100i (and some usage credits to compensate for having to buy the new phone).

If I could, I'd JUMP back to my two devices (X-30Hi and Nextel conventional phone).

able_onar-

I think the voicemail only showing one is a carrier issue, as I had it with my CDMA Sprint Treo 700Wx, and also with my Mogul. Not sure why this is so, but I think I've read that it's just the way certain carriers and WM Phones interact. I agree this is lousy, as I've discovered multiple unknown voicemails before, too. I've had to get into the habit of checking at least once a day to make sure I don't miss any.

I haven't had the dropped call issues, myself, fortunately.

My BT is pretty good. I played around with Voice Command on my Mogul, and it worked, but was too much of a resource hog for the memory-underpowered Mogul. So, after deciding to just us the preinstalled Voice Speed Dialer I've been much happier and the headset activated voice dialing is very usable for me.

As for the OS issues, well, WM is WM afterall. I myself perform a few soft resets a day just to keep things humming along smoothly. But, I've been doing this for years with all of my WM devices.

As for me, I am a WM diehard, so a Blackberry is out of the question. And, since my SERO plan on Sprint is so good, I won't be changing carriers anytime soon.

That being said, I must say that my Mogul has really grown on me and has become my favorite device I've owned.

Maybe that elusive "perfect" WM Phone is just around the corner...
