The Wing is the PERFECT AXIM Replacement
I absolutely LOVE MY WING!!!
after flashing the ROM, it works pretty fast and the ability to have a phone, and a pocket pc is worth the trade in screen size and processor speed. Although, if DELL decided to make a phone with the speed and power of the axim, it would be better than the WING.

I've got a Sprint Mogul (same difference, but with EVDO speed).
My former PPC was an Axim X30. It only took me a year to figure out that the base functionality of the Axim was crippled by lack of "anywhere" net access. I had a "snap on keyboard" which let me know my next PPC needed a built in one. I'm using quite a few of my old Axim programs.

Flashed Rom With What?
Quote:
Flashed the ROM with what??? I've had the WING since October, and it is SLOOOOWWWW out o fthe box compared to my X50v. I can live without the VGA resolution, and even found a great Time & Billing program, (TimeBiller from Fannsoftware.com), but I regret, the speed is lacking an abosutely PERFECT rating from me - did you do something to effect this change? Thank you!

The Wing only has a very slow 200MHz processor. The X50v has a 624MHz processor and there is NO comparison.

The Mogul has 400MHz processor, not as fast as my X51v but I am hoping it will serve as a great modem.

My Axim is a little window to the big world.
I don't drive fast, I fly really low!

I've been using the Mogul for about three months (see my recent post on woes regarding use of the device as a phone on the "Who Has a Wing/Mogul thread).
I aggree with others that the device is SLOW - even compared to my old X30-Hi. Running Pocket Informant with about 600 contacts stored, it takes about 5 seconds to filter contacts for a search. The same app with the same contacts list running on the X30 would do it in less than 2 secs. BUT - I have to concede - using the device as a cellular modem works great. With EVDO bandwdth, download speeds are surprisingly fast. E-mail (I use On-Demand - not Push) works fine too. The built-in keyboard is good - but so many times, I still find myself reaching for a stylus and going for soft-input (too many years of Palm and Axim habits I guess). But if I'm going to compose a long E-mail or Text Message, I have found myself gradually learning to slide that keyboard out. I just wish the device were more reliable as a cell phone... ![]()

I don't think it is near "perfect replacement" but it should do just fine for someone with light usage. It is pretty slow and feels flimsy. Axim feels heavier but much more solid and safe.

Exactly. Either the AT&T Tilt, HTC Mogul, or similar device that has a more speedier processor.

I just boght a sprint mogul and I LOVE IT!!!!!! Speed is not an issue and the screen is fine. I just replaced my buggy old POS x50v and my RAZR v3i and I couldn't ask for more. At least for the price. I mean yeah I could have spent $1000 on a better device but I like being married.

I think it is the perfect replacement if YOU like it. I personally want VGA, but that unit has tons of features anyway. Glad you like it.

Exactly, the touch screen on my X3i went south, and I still miss it. But I carry 1 device now instead of 2 (or 1 when I forget my Axim). I don't use it for e-mail, seldom surf, and have very few additional apps, it's mainly my contacts and phone. And it's a far better phone than my Razr V3 ever was.
Now if only I can figure out what happened to my ringtones.... But thats another thread ![]()

I don't know about Dell's capacity as a phone manufacturer, they would have to do a lot of catch-up to be able to make a phone PDA device that bests what is already out there - but, you know, if Apple can do it, so can Dell.
