Wing dings, thoughts right out of the box

Just a few thoughts as it sits on my desk, no apps or syncing yet....

I like the case (color and feel). It doesn't slide, but I could see how it might show more marks, only time will tell.

MicroSD? I am not even going to bother asking why. 2GB on order.

I never get dirt in my ports. I hate little rubber covers that break off.

A Windows button and an OK button! Yeah! No comm button or IE button, always a trade off with these darn phones.

A full size stylus, yeah! Pulls from the bottom, boo.

Shared port for charging and wired headset. Boy, I would be pissed if I ever used a wired headset, although it comes with a Y adapter.

I like the feel of the 5 way button better, YMMV.

Be sure to check out Chris' detailed review, too! :)

Slow processor is ok as long as it translates to long battery life.

I use a bluetooth gps, but if you use an SD card, well, you won't.

Money is all relative. I paid over $700 for my Wizard (before TMO had the MDA). Then $250 for the MDA with a contract extension. Just depends on how patient (or not) you are :)

BT GPS if it works in the pocket, it will be OK, but it will still drain the battery. Also seems like that USB port is another pita.

Are you using a BT headset with the Wing? Does the Wing have all the BT drivers or just the Headset? I ask because I use my HT820 with my Ipaq all the time and wanted to use it with my Cell but discovered after I bought it, no support for A2DP so really poor music quality. I am not a music purist, but the static was really bad.

Second do you think the Wing is a proper replacement for my Ipaq 2755? I am in need of email support on the road both with the laptop and PDA and am considering the Wing as I already have TM.

I use a Moto HS850 and a Logitech Bluetooth Headset (an older style). I do not use a BT headest for music, but it has support for A2DP.

As with many smartphones, there are trade-offs. So all you can do is look at them and decide based on your own priorities. The processor will be slow compared to your pda. But the battery life is decent. And you can overclock and lose bat life of course).

You will also find the amount of memory is shocking compared to the 2755. Almost all my apps go on the card. I found with me x51v, everything went to main memory.

So performance will be less, convenience will be more since you don't have to carry another phone.

Also, depends on what OS you want. Lots of folks that already have an MDA are sticking with it since the Wing is a minor upgrade. But if you want a stock WM6, then the Wing is a good choice. And you don't mind spending the bucks for it! :)

A cost effective option might be a used MDA. You will have people unloading them when they get their Wing (like me). And you can get cooked roms if you want WM6.

I am assuming you have T-Mobile. You can also go unlocked. Eton is supposed to be coming out with a vga model. Their current 700 has a gps built-in.

The decision was easy for me, I wanted a local, right now phone. I knew I liked the size and format of the slide out keyboard. And I know I get a new phone more than once a year :)
