I was wandering through Best Buy a couple days ago and lo-and-behold they had a returned HP TC1100 sitting in a lockup with their laptops.

I was told it was originally an on-line purchase, but was returned within their 14 day grace period. Since it couldn't be sold as 'new' it was shipped off to a store for 'open-box' clearance. Lucky me! Great shape, no dead pixels, and a 3 yr HP warranty.

Got it for a discount of $100 of their web price, plus a 1GB RAM stick added for nothing. It has the Centrino M 1.2Ghz processor...MUCH faster than my TC1000's 1GHZ Transmeta.

Happy dance time !

I'm gonna give the old TC1000 to my father so he can do light computing sitting in his living room, or sell it off if he doesn't like it.

I look in those cases frequently. Bought a digicam, PPC, and mp3 player over the years from their "closeout case" at BestBuy.

I would have loved to pickup a new Motion... LS800 or LE1600, but they're just too much money!

Besides, I've got a bunch of extra goodies for the TC1000 and they're all still useable with the TC1100, so I get to save a few more $

I looked at the specs of the TC1100 and it does look nice. I've also looked over the Gateway CX200X (I have an open credit line with them that is itching to be used). It seems kind of heavy though.

The reason I am so keen on the LS800 is that I really think that would be the perfect solution for me and I would no longer need the 4700 and I would be able to replace my aging laptop at the same time....

Money is an obstacle though...

Yeah, the Gateway's are too heavy, in my opinion, too.

It sounds like the LS800 or a UMPC would be right for you, for sure. I do like the 10" screen of the TC series. It's just right for me I I .
