Movies on a tablet

Have any of you used a tablet pc to watched a movie? If the one you used didnt have a DVD drive how did you get the movie into it? And finally how well does XP tablet handle a windows media file? Can I record a show on my media pc and then transfer it to a tablet PC?

A tablet plays a movie just fine, although other laptops have nicer looking screens. A USB DVD drive, although some of the tablets are starting to come with built in drives.

Hi vilasman

The answer to "Have any of you used a tablet pc to watch a movie" is YES from me. I do it all the time. I have Motion's LS800 and even though I do have a drive I can attach, I have my movies on SD cards that I insert and watch. It has worked well.

Prior to getting my tablet, all my movies were converted for my Pocket PC and interestingly enough, those movies come out looking pretty good. I am converting newer movies now using a better resolution but all the old ones are fine.

You asked "Can I record a show on my media pc and then transfer it to a tablet PC?" I have transfered TV shows from my Media Center PC to SD for playback. Although the video quality is good, for some reason, there is a lag in the sound ... I have not figured that out yet.

All in all, I am very satisfied with the abilty to watch movies and for the most part, using the tablet is my first choice now.

Interesting.... I think the motion is a for real tablet and not a convertible. How do you prop it up to watch a movie... does it have some kind of stand?

I have very slick cradle for it for when I want it on my desktop. Usually when watching a movie, it is resting on my lap while I am relaxed in my easy chair....works for me!

...and I forgot to say YES, I agree ... it is a "for real" tablet! If I need a keyboard, I use the Think Outside Sierra BT keyboard ... it is a sweet setup!

I've played movies on my tablet. Mine does have a DVD drive, but I've also transfered recorded TV files (dvr-ms), avi, and other movie files.

I have a Fujitsu T4220 - comes with a removable DVD drive. Mostly I just watch movies I've converted for my ppc. But, I also purchased an external DVD drive for my U810.

One thing to keep in mind: When I have my 4220 in tablet mode the DVD drive automatically locks. Preventing the drive from spinning. The tablet needs to be on a flat surface while using the DVD drive or you can cause damage.

I rarely use the included DVD drive with my tablet. I leave the bay battery in and carry the external drive around.

[TIP] - Do this with your Tablet PC

I use my tablet for movies all the time, although it's worth noting that a 1.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo ULV (common on the HP 2710p, Fujitsu 2010, and Dell Latitude XT) will *not* play 720p video in my experience. Any tablet will do for DVD-quality/SD video but if HD is important to you look for a faster processor. If you don't have an internal DVD drive (I don't, and see no need/want for one), Handbrake (HandBrake) is a great Free program for converting DVDs to video files to keep on the HD.

I watch movies via tablet occasionally, it's not a "real" (x86) tablet, its CE, and the screen isn't the greatest, but it works nonetheless. I have about 50 movies converted to pocket pc format, I can fit about 15 of these on one of my spare 2 gig sd cards that I have laying around, I usually switch the movies out when I get bored of them, and keep them on my desktop.

I used windows movie maker to convert them, and the 148 fps is good, but 218 is pretty close to perfect.
