Does anyone know who we can buy from

I'm thinking that a lot of the bigger companies are letting the PPC people down. HP has let us all down with the PPC's, yet I simply love the laptop I'm typing on right now that they made.

Dell is the same, IMHO.

And really, those are the two major players that I can think of in the PPC market. Seems to me PPC's are just going to be going the way of the dodo.

Not that I'd be complaining though, if it weren't for the fact that Tablet PC's are so bloody expensive. Of course, I'd love for them to be a little smaller too...

It looks as if these UMPC/Origami Project tablets are likely to be the next replacement for the 4700 type PPC. I'm tired of reading about yet another PPC Phone all with the same specs. On top of that, Fujitsu Siemens seem to be the only PPC manufacturer with plans for high-end future PPCs and none of their new ones seem to stack up too well against the current VGA devices (i.e. no CF slot, etc.)

I'm hoping that an Origami tablet will provide me with with enough power to improve upon my 4700 without too many noticable limitations. Having said that, I have no idea how they will produce something that fits in my hand and has enough processing power to run Windows (with things like antivirus running) and a screen with a high enough resolution to give you decent screen real estate and a battery that lasts more than two minutes at an affordable price

Yeah, I'm tired of all the PPC phones as well. Don't get me wrong, I have a SmartPhone (Audiovox SMT5600), but there's still a reason I keep my phone and PPC separate.

I hope these UMPC/Origami tablets wll provide enough to improve on the 4700. But, I agree, I'm skeptical as well. There's a lot that it needs to do in order for me to switch.

Yeah, if these new tablets don't offer real instant-on like PPCs then I would be prepared to switch to a small smartphone for PIM access and so forth but I don't know if I would be happy to wait 5 minutes for an XP tablet to start when I'm so used to my ipaq just being on.

Try Nokia! :)

The PPC platform seems to be coming to an end... your choice will soon be non-PPC devices (Nokia 770-type devices) or convergant "Smart Phone" devices (which when running Windows Mobile will no doubt have all the faults of PPC, plus a few more).

I realise this is a PPC forum, but why are some of you guys only thinking in terms of Windows-based (Tablet PCs) or Microsoft designed (Origami vapourware) devices? There are other choices out there... be brave! :)

I just read about the Origami Project, looks promising. Check out this ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rV1WGDW37c0) just leaked out - supposedly made a year ago (I hope it won't look like that) - gives you an idea of where Microsoft is marketing this new device. We should know more 3.9.06 (http://www.origamiproject.com). Hopefully, it will look more like this...

Milhouse, I'm curious. Why are you so intent on bringing up the Nokia 770?

well, my guess is that if he has a pda, he may only use it for internet access, in which case he'd be a big proponent of the 770. i'm sure the majority use our ipaqs, axims, etc for more than just internet, so the nokia 770 would not be good for alot of us because of just that reason. the 770 does one thing, but it does it good, and that is internet access.

True enough! Get off the Nokia! It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight. PPCs do so much more than just surf the web.

Maybe we could set up a special "Nokia" forum for the little guy?

Oh, wait.....isn't there already a forum for "other" devices?

Now now, Milhouse just recently got this N770 so let the guy express his enthusiasm for his choice. I bet a lot of you would do the same if you've just purchased a new device also, just with varied level of enthusiasm of course.

Personally Id buy an OQO+1, if only there were enough kidneys in my body for me to be able to afford one.

This looks surprisingly like the Origami project due out later this month. I am very intrigued by these and I could see myself actually moving from my 4700 to something like this.

Possibly because quite a number of people appear unhappy to one extent or another with HP, their 4700, WM2003/2005, or all three... I find it quite bizarre that despite the shortcomings of the PPC platform, some users are fishing around for other PPC decices - I feel it my duty, ney my mission, to educate these poor souls that other non-Microsoft/non-PPC devices are viable portable computing pocket fillers.

:)
