MS Office 2003 on a Tablet
One of the real basics that everyone should run on a TPC is MS Office 2003.
MS did quite a good job of integrating ink into their Office products.
I've got Office 2003 Pro and was playing around with InfoPath for the first time a few days ago. As a learning exercise I tried creating a sales form my company uses to rent and lease construction equipment.
It was surprisingly easy to do, and so many features are built into the form making software that I really enjoy playing with it. What I truly found great was that when I opened the form outside of the form editor, I was presented with a pop-up stating that InfoPath had detected that the form was being used on a TabletPC so Inking mode had automatically been enabled to allow ink to be used in all text entry boxes.
I loved that. So Cool!!
The ink recognition of data I entered by pen was about 98% accurate and easily correctable. Conversion to text was automatic after a short delay to let it know I had finished writing.
If you have, or are planning to get, a TPC you really need to have Office.
And apparently Ink integration will be even deeper in Vista TabletPC Edition and office 2007. That will be something to see!
