I think it is WM5. I can't use any old Today themes either. Luckily WM5 lets you use your own pictures as a background image and control the transparency level and positioning of the image.
I managed to get the Today theme working, but I do not recall exactly how I did it, and when it finally did work, I had two or so copies of it on the system. I think what finally worked was having one in the Windows directory, and I had another one in Documents I think and then it finally saw them.
The same deal doesn't seem to happen with this Media Player though...
so I tried to get the deviant art themes to work and they wouldn't show on the skins list, I tried renaming a skin file to the default skin name and it worked but it was a small image in the top left of the screen and the buttons didn't work. :exc:
Hey, I have an Axim x51v and I've also been trying to make the skins for Windows Media Player work (the ones that Microsoft offers on their website). I haven't figured out why they don't work but I was able to create a very simple one. You must be in landscape mode so it can show up. Also make sure to save it under --> \Program Files\Windows Media Player.
Ok so to make sure this skin works for your x51v with Windows Mobile 10 follow these steps:
1. Download and extract to a folder on your desktop (for this example let's name it "My Skin")
2. Copy and Paste this folder ("My Skin") to your Axim into the following folder \Program Files\Windows Media Player\
3. Make sure you're in landscape mode, open up Windows Media player, go into the Skin settings, select the skin named "Tester" and enjoy
I am currently testing all of my skins to try to find out what deviation in the skin file is causing problems. I will post my findings here when complete.
In the meantime, if anyone else solves this problem please contact me.
I'm experiencing the same problem and I'm still on 2003 SE and WMP 10. I tried installing one of the new Spb Unithemes and the only component that appeared was the today screen.
While troubleshooting the problem I found that the default files in the media player directory are just shortcuts to the actual .skn files in \Windows. When I tried changing those to point to the new .skn files there was no change (NEXT and PREVIOUS still grey). I also tried moving the new .skn files into the Windows directory, still no change.
I'm missing something, MP10 is getting the list of skins from somewhere and it doesn't seem to be any of the files that have been discussed in all of the threads I've searched. Any new ideas would be welcomed.
Inside the /Program Files/Windows Media Player/ folder there should be a folder for each new skin containing all of the graphics files and the .skn file.
The only other thing that would cause it not to show up is if it's not the correct resolution for your device (VGA or QVGA)
Update: I have confirmed that the problem with my skins working is the Fullscreen button. If I remove this from the skin definition all of my releases work fine.
I'm now trying to find a fix for this, but in the meantime if you all want your skins to work try deleting the FULLSCREEN line in the .skn file.
You can delete the [ Bitmaps ] line, I just use it as a marker, then delete it.
Apparently, WMP is looking for these lines in the .skn file. I don't know why, but it worked for all of the wmp skins that I had previously tried to use, but couldn't.
Now, if I could only figure out why some of the skins are the size of a postage stamp! Anyone figure out that one yet???
Try this!
1-As far as Today skin. Go to www.mcDeb.com and download any VGA skins. Don't use the ones created for SPB (extended) they don't work.
2-For WMP10, unzip the attached files and create a directory on your storage card (e.g. WMP skins) and drop this file in. Then go to WMP to select this skin. Be patient and wait for WMP to scan and find the skin...
