So I have recently upgraded from a Palm to an Axim X51 :-). The only thing I can't seem to figure out is how to install skins with Media Player 10. I have snagged some skins from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../ppcskins.aspx , and no matter where I put the skin, it does not seem to be detected by Media Player. Any ideas?
The only thing I am thinking is that maybe the screen resolution or direction is different than what the skin indicates; does that make sense?
The file that you download from Microsoft's website is an executable. It is a self-executing unzip file. Unzip the file on your computer. It should create a folder (in my case it was called Silver) and inside the folder will be several image files and one text file that ends in .skn (this is the skin file that tells the application how to use the images).
Copy the entire folder to your Pocket_PC My Documents folder and then go to the Windows Media Player. Click on Menu, Options, Skins and it should let you click on the arrows on the bottom to see it.
Hopefully that helps! :approve:

This is precisely what I have done a number of times now; and no matter where I put the .skn and its related images, Media Player does not seem to detect it and the arrows remain disabled. Any other ideas? Thanks.
You need to put all of the files for the skin in \Program Files\Windows Media Player
You can have subdirectories under that folder and WMP will find the skins
So under My Device\Program Files\Windows Media Player, I created a folder "Orange", and have placed all the files in there (the 7 images and 1 .skn file), and still when I go into Windows Media Player, it only shows me the default.
Is anyone else using Windows Mobile 5? Could it be just a feature of it? Thanks for any assistance.
my skins doesnt work too.. those 2 tips didnt help... :(
mine just showed grey

i just downloaded Orange from the Microsoft link above. Unzipped it. Copied the 8 files into the PPC's \Program Files\Windows Media Player\orange directory.
On the PPC, I started WM10. Went to the menu -> options. Went to the skins tab and it was there. I selected it and it worked.

I dunno. It just does not work at all. Do you have Windows Mobile 5 or a previous version? Did your WM10 come with the system? I'm just curious to see if there is just something weird about the Dell Factory default that causes this to occur.
There are some nice Windows Media 10 Skins here. They work on my X50v but I don't have WM5 yet.

I think it is WM5. I can't use any old Today themes either. Luckily WM5 lets you use your own pictures as a background image and control the transparency level and positioning of the image.
