Skinning psShutXP... but how?

I am working on a personal skin for psShutXP and midway through it, I decided to try it out to see how it looks so far. To my shegrin, i discovered that it doesn't work. Neither does replacing the skin .gif file with one from another completed theme work. Could someone let me know what I am doing wrong so that I may continue my quest to have the uber Half-Life 2 Pocket PC?

If you trudge through the Russian side of the psShutXP site (ppcsoft.narod.ru) you can find the templates for creating QVGA and VGA themes for psShutXP.

Edit - I just sent you a PM

You are putting it in the exact same folder as the executable? You have called the files by the proper name?

And this may sound like a stupid question but you are using psShutXP and not the other program that does almost the exact same thing and is named similarly? I have seen two or three pages of threads of people trying to help someone skin this software only to discover that they are using the other software.

One last stupid question then, you are using the correct VGA version of the program and a VGA theme is what you created to use with it?

And one more final stupid question, did you name the two files the following:

psshutxp_skin_eng_vga.gif
psshutxp_skin_vga.gif

which I believe is the proper format for a vga device.

and it really is a gif image sized 440 * 280 pixels?

Sorry running out of ideas to help you. One last question, have you tried any other skins to see if they work with it. Did the one that was previously in the folder skin it? I believe the program does have a built in skin.

If you want PM me and I'll give you my email so you can send me the files and I can try them on my x51v and see if they work on mine. I am currently using a skin without any problems on it.

I'll reinstall it in a few minutes and see if it works. If not, i'll email you the files.

You did download it from here: http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/

And out of curiosity have you disabled Microsofts Trusted applications routine on your x51v? It occurs to me that he might use mui files to switch the views by making it load a skin if available and if so this will not work without disabling this.

You might have gotten hold of an early version of the program, if I remember correctly, the first version didn't support skinning.

And of course post it, I am sure people will enjoy it.

I'd definitely like to see it. Especially if it's HL2 inspired.
